That is how it is reading to me as well. I fully support the message by Mike but I have zero intentions of ever owning a gun. I have no desire, even with a gun in my chest to murder another human. Ever. But I wholeheartedly respect the legal right to own weapons.
I recognize that it may make me a victim. I have long ago come to terms with that. What I can't come to terms with is taking a life. Not for me.
As far as the NRA angle of this. I am a huge proponent of the message trumping the messenger. For example, if MLK's, "I have a dream" speech was done in the exact same chair and setting as Mikes interview, would I think less of it. No, not at all. I wouldn't care if he said what he said in one of the caves Bin Laden was hiding out in. Or the hole they found Saddam in. Completely irrelevant to me where it happened, especially because I know he has been saying these things for years and it hasn't garnered even 1/10th of the steam as it has today. So if I were to view things from his perspective, this is a win. You want to get the message out to more people, even at the risk of your mostly positive public image? Well, now you have that.
Obviously I am more about endgame/bottom line. All the IG posts, tweets, times behind a mic or in front of a camera where he has said the exact same thing has had little comparative affect. It took a hated organization for his words to reach certain people. To me, that speaks volumes about this country.
