Any artform that can't incorporate different styles within it deserves to die because it was too small and weak to begin with. Rap doesn't belong to one race or culture it belongs to whomever does it or identifies with it which is good because without new blood and the creativity that comes with it it'd get boring real quick with the same shyt recycled over and over again beating a dead horse.

this isn't a criticism of conscious rap or even racist/nationalist/etc. rap. Its just that whatever you choose is your preference.

I'm aware. but that CAC lord also created the angsty, cac ass rap without rhythm lane and made records about step fathers and his dusted ****** friends.

Surpises me that you actually heard and remember songs from his records. You must be somewhat of a fan.
Also, you can't take 1 song out of El-p's entire discography and stigmatize him based on that 1 song. Killer Mike is a pretty outspoken dude, why in the world would Mike work on an album now (their second together, mind you!) with him and El-P rapping on it, if he didn't like El-P's sh*t? Your're insulting Killer Mike's intelligence here.

Mike wasn't downplaying emotion. He was saying white rapper's brought SELF-PITY. There's a difference.

Mike was saying your pain doesn't make you special, dope or deep. A lot of rappers these days exaggerate there struggle as if it validates them as an MC. A lot of new MC's make a point of "man I was broke, now i'm rich but I got so many haters" kinda self-pity thing as if it makes them deep. Big Sean and Drake do it a lot. They over-compensate because they what their struggles validated when there music is all the validation they need.

Like "Started from the Bottom", the hook is actually unnecessary. The verses barely delve into the concept. It's just an attempt to validate his struggle/pain.

I get what he's trying to say but pain is still pain.

If black rapper X lost his mom to crack and white rapper Y lost his mom to pills they both lost. It's not a race thing in my opinion everybody has a story, the white perspective is just different :yeshrug:

The other side, otherwise
I agree with a lot of what I've read here, and I'm not entirely sure where I stand, but what I am aware of is a fine line between dope introspection, and weeping in the booth.

he's right but he's smart dumb so it came out retarded. saying white rappers brang self pity when there was years of self pitying hip hop before there was a white rapper.

Sounds like he's describing Drake more than Eminem..

:lupe:

I'm assuming he's going at macklemoore being that he said "new". I can't really even think of that many white rappers that he could even be talking about.

If he's not talking about EL, or cats like slug and his ilk, he's throwing some pretty direct shots at somebody.

he doesn't know what self pity means he's using it in a completely wrong context :dead:

No he said everyone has pain. It's not special. When you look deep into it, a lot of rappers come very harsh backgrounds but most do not pity themselves with it.

A lot of new rappers don't have that background so they over compensate with self pity. I think Eminem was the first to do it on a big scale and Drake's the biggest one doing it now. Big Sean etc. all do it too.

He doesn't pity himself in the example he used.
