I feel for their people, but I'm also curious how one would move up in their society, for example how'd those actors in @Drinky Crow 's video get their jobs? What about those generals that be holding their guns backwards in photo OPs with their king? I find it amusing. From the little bit we covered about their nation waaaaay back in middle school I was under the impression that most folks were just farmers or trying to get a job at the plant.
The bolded is pretty much it, but North Korea has a three-tiered ranking system,
songbun:
North Korea's Caste System
It's mostly based on what your family did before North Korea became North Korea; if your grandfather was fighting alongside Kim Il Sung, you'd most likely be in the "core", if he was poor but neutral, he'd be "wavering", and if he was a landowner, then "hostile" but your actions, bribes, etc. can bring you up or down. Everything you do is predetermined by that system, from your job to your education, if you were allowed any.
