A 20-year-old black woman who was found badly burned in a park in northern Louisiana on Sunday night had tried to make the episode appear to be a racially motivated attack, the authorities said on Tuesday. The police in Winnsboro said in a news conference Tuesday that an investigation showed that her injuries had been self-inflicted and that her DNA had been found on a bottle of lighter fluid used to start a fire, but they did not give details or a motive. The woman had told authorities that three men had doused her with a flammable liquid and set her on fire. The letters KKK and a racial slur were scrawled on the hood of her car. The woman, Sharmeka Moffitt, is hospitalized in critical condition.

To be fair, I don't see many other news articles calling this a (possible) hoax just yet.....I still see way more describing it as a legit attack (although those could be just the earlier articles)

KSLA reports that Winnsboro Police Chief Lester Thomas said Moffitt admitted to setting the fire and putting the racial slurs on her car.

exactly...this is a coverup...authorities in this hick Lousiana towns have an history of trying to play down white on black hate crimes....Infact late last year I recall watching a video about some black kid from Cali(visitng his father) being found bruised/beaten and in the bottom of river after leaving to hang out with a group local teen rednecks from town..unsuprisingly despite visible physical injuries on his body the the police is this backwood town labeled this brother's murder as an accidental drowning and didn't even bother to do an investigation...Any conclusion on this case which disparages this sister coming from those good ole boy cops should be taken with a grain of salt

Clearly the devils whom harmed that sister got allies in high places(the police,courts,etc) which is hardly suprising...considering no one in there right mind would burn over half of there body/risk murdering themselves just to scream wolf and there is no documented evidence of her being mentally unstable...This is defintely a coverup..Clearly whitey doesn't want this story go nationwide or their boys to be punished for harming a negro...I'm actually concerned about this sister's safety now...these cacs might jjust try to finish the job to shut her up now..Sharpton/Jesse need to get envolved and brigh tlight to this matter before this sister is snuffed out and forgotten.

I suggest that you go onto the FBI's website. Then look up black on white crime and vice versa. If anything, black on white crime is downplayed by the media.

In Europe especially, if a white dude harms a brother its immediately labelled a race attack. If a brother attacks a white dude, ethnicity is never mentioned.

I suspect it is the same in America. All journalists in the western world are part of a union that stresses the following code of conduct;

Only mention someone's race if it is strictly relevant. Check to make sure you have it right. Would you mention race if the person was white?

Do not sensationalise race relations issues; it harms black people and it could harm you.

Think carefully about the words you use. Words which were once in common usage are now considered offensive, e.g. half-caste and coloured. Use mixed-race and black instead. Black can cover people of Arab, Asian, Chinese and African origin. Ask people how they define themselves.
