Nobody was scouting high school players like that in 1996. Social media isn't like it is today. No youtube, no facebook, no twitter, no camera phones. most people didn't even have cell phones. Hell, Charlotte drafted Kobe and then traded him. And Divac had to approve going there, otherwise they would've been "stuck" with Kobe (but to be fair, Kobe didn't want to play in Charlotte and was trying to force his way out anyway)
