The handcheck rule change wasnt until 2004. Kobe had just got done averaging 30 a game in 2003. He also averaged 28 and 25 in the seasons preceding.

Yes, over cheap fouls he thinks he deserved. I'm all for the removal of some of the nonsense in the game right now, but its dishonest to say that Kobe didn't rely heavily on those whistles. When you see players doing a swing through or pumpfaking and jumping into a defender, where do you think they learned that?

Kobe used those moves regularly and every time it was discussed, the answer was that these moves are necessary to protect stars, keep defenders honest, and increase scoring.

Later on in his career 100% Kobe whined for fouls, he would get so many tick tack non contact calls but you could say that about any superstar, so you can't hold it against Kobe
