Them dudes had foresight. They even anticipated the labor trouble and got one more contract under the more favorable previous CBA. I remember them trying to convince Melo to do the same, but he slept and wound up in a bad situation when he wanted to leave Denver. He couldn't really dictate where to go because of his contract situation/cba uncertainty. If the Knicks didn't step up with the package he would've been "stuck" in NJ.
Uh... Melo was one of the last ones to re-up his money before Billy Hunter threw the NBAPA in the bushes.
So with rings being how we perceive overall greatness amongst the elite, would it be fair for kobe stans to admit MJ is greater?
or is that battle still being fought?

Melo had 1 year (player option for 20 million) left on his contract. In order to become an unrestricted free agent and bounce to NY he would've had to leave that money on the table and negotiate a new contract under the yet to be determined cba. That wasn't going to happen, which means the Knicks/Nets had to give up a bunch to get him in a trade. Melo and the Knicks didn't have a lot of leverage .
It matters when comparing legends of the game. As great as Barkley and Malone were, the biggest reason why Duncan is considered better is becuz he has 4 rings to their zero
