"Back then, if guys put their hands on you, you had to have the skill to be able to go both ways, change direction, post up, you had to have a mid-range game because you didn't want to go all the way to the basket because you would get knocked ass over tea kettle. So I think playing the game back then required much more skill"

This I think is where we've lost so much in terms of quality of play. How many times do you see actual MOVES now? When people say player X is talented, they usually mean he can shoot or make a pass. Most guys now get at the rim strictly based on speed (and the fact that most of the time there's no one to defend the basket anyway) while before guys had to come up with moves to get by their defender and the help defense. Hardly anyone has actual moves now.

If scoring was so easy, how come Kobe got shut down in the Finals by the Celtics in '08 and '10?

Answer: Defenses will always adjust to the rules

I'd argue it takes more skill to be a 6'2 guard driving against 3 defenders in today's league Vs being a 7ft in the 90s Or playing some guy who fouls you every time you go by him

Only thing I would change 'bout defenses these days is handchecking. Bring it back

Kobe got shut down by the celtics in 2010 but averaged 29 ppg? are you fukking retarded or just a fakkit?

Yes, but he also had 40% FG pct, 31% 3pt, 4 TOs, and we are just talking about boxscore stats.

edit: also peep this article before Game 5. Celts aint bite for his fakes and kept a hand in his face, forcing low % shots plus they had Thibs strongside D that nobody figured out yet

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Bryant is now just 5-for-19 (26.6 percent) in the Finals with Tony Allen as the Celtics' primary defender on him. Even when he doesn't cause Bryant to miss a shot, he deters him from even taking one. In the 73 possessions that Allen has guarded him this series, Kobe has touched the ball 79.5 percent of the time. In the 234 possessions when it's been somebody other than Allen checking Kobe, Bryant has touched the ball 88 percent of the time.

All 19 shot attempts by Bryant against Allen have been with a hand in his face too, while he's been able to get off eight uncontested looks against the rest of the Celtics' crew.

Half of Bryant's 22 attempts in Game 4 were 3-pointers. He made six of them, tying his playoff career high for most makes from downtown in a game, but you'd rather have him launching from 22 feet and beyond where he's shooting 39.6 percent for the playoffs than anywhere in 2-point territory where he's hitting at a 49.1 percent clip in the postseason.

blame slow motion replay being reviewed for every foul making every split second foul look calculated and with malicious intent.

Kobe has always been "soft" Dude grew up overseas living in ITALY for god sakes. People have got to stop with this "Kobe's such a warrior and blah blah" nikkas has been getting punked since day 1 of his career. He just bullies people who are smaller and less valuable to the team then he is.
