Kobe's defense definitely was not overrated during the 3 peat days. And I thought he played excellent defense through the '08-'10 playoffs especially in all 3 Finals.

He wasn't great in '05-'07 for obvious reasons.

First off, the bolded is FALSE Kobe was an incredibly pleasing player to watch who made more incredible plays than damn near everybody. That fake issue has been debunked multiple times. Very few of Kobe's shots were at the end of the shot clock, only 1-2 a game, with other stars doing it at least as often if not more so.

Kobe at his best defensively is a better individual defender than LeBron James or Dwyane Wade at their best. LeBron is/was a better help defender though.

Lebron not only a better help defender, but a better individual defender against both 1s AND 3s/4s.

Lakers were also getting some perimeter defensive specialist to take the best swingman instead of Kobe (Artest, Ariza) and PG's were still shytting on them on the regular. Meanwhile, Lebron was no only almost always the best perimeter defender on his team, but shut down elite point guards when the team needed that too.
