He said his defense had faltered in "recent years", and made that comment regarding the 2003-04 season, when he DID make the All-Defensive team. Along with 2002 and 2003. So his own coach says that he didn't deserve those.
And have beef with your coach when he's one of the greatest ever and guided you to all your rings.
And....once again his own coach, Tex Winter, says you are WRONG.
"He's basically playing a lot of one-man zone. He's doing a lot of switching, zoning up, trying to come up with the interception.
"The way Kobe plays defensively affects the team," Winter added. "Anybody that doesn't play consistently good defense hurts the team.
That was Tex in 2007. So take away those 2006 and 2007 selections too.
So we have a guy who won all-defensive selections from 2000-2004 and 2006-2012....but within both stretches, his own coaches are saying those awards were bs.
Is there another player in the league who's gotten his All Defensive nods ripped apart by his own coaches?
And it's not like he got better later:
That was when they FINALLY stopped giving Kobe All-Defensive nods.
Though it might not have been as bad as 2011, when despite that gambling, Kobe only averaged 1.2 steals and 0.1 blocks for the season....and made 1st-team All-Defensive.
You can see why they took the award away from the coaches.
