If you bring in PC games, J-devs have been outshined since Tie fighter and mechwarrior 2. Triple A PC games have been far superior to Japanese games for a very long time.

In fact From Soft games like bloodborne and Armored Core seem to take a lot from from those old classics.

Using sales as measure. What if I tell you Guitar Hero and Just Dance sold more than any of those you mentioned? Just because they sold well, doens't mean they are great games.
