This behavior is fostered across multiple years from middle school through college. Guys who are late, don't do their homework, get in trouble, etc but it all gets washed away by benefactors (bag men, agents, schools, boosters, etc). Sometimes these guys turn out good, stay out of trouble, etc. But they often burn out real young or get into major legal trouble.
