That's something you do behind closed door and not publicly especially considering that Kyrie making his thoughts public was the reason why he was in that situation in the first place. Publicly thanking him is just to put them both in even more of a bread when everyone involved wants the situation to be moved on from.

THIS IS MY BIGGEST ISSUE! Seeing the Kanye incident (which was justified b/c even WS don't publicly say "I'm going to go deathcon 5 or w/e on black ppl"), he should've known SOMEONE was gonna say something and he should've asked himself: am I willing to die on this hill for this post. I'm an atheist so as far as I'm concerned ALL Y'ALL crazy but still. What purpose did it serve? And BK of all places in the US?
