No matter what you look at, Kobe was an average to below average defender for most of his career. He got by on reputation and the fact that locking in on one random play in a game made people forget that he was invisible on D the rest of the game.
I know you hate numbers because they don't support your stupid opinions, but there is no way to explain why legitimately good defenders always had good defensive metrics yet Kobe didn't. Well, there is ONE explanation, he wasn't that good.
just want to add if I may. first...no point in arguing with a stan. second...with all emotion aside, prime Kobe was a very good wing defender. he was overrated some seasons, but MJ was too. Bron I feel was overrated the past year or two. hey, they all got a lil too much credit at some point based on how good they may have been previously. still, overall, career wise, Bron was more versatile and better defender IMO.
I am not a kobe hater, but I hate when people reference games like when the Lakers came back on the Magic. they love to say Kobe shut down T-Mac. people need to realize its not as hard to shut down a guy when there pretty much is no one else on his team to be worried about. look at the team the Lakers had and look at the team the Magic had. Kobe benefited from having some great defensive teams and players around him so that should not be overlooked.

You can't dispute it. There are no metrics that indicate Kobe was a plus defender except back in 2000 or so when he earned that rep.

It means what I said. Kobe and Mike always get ALL the credit like they didnt play on some of the strongest teams every put together. and I thought I'd never see another player in my life as good as MJ. Bron my dude, but like I said, no bias....all of them have been overrated defensively at some point and time. Kobe wasnt as good as either of them defensively though. dont see an argument that can support that.

Kyrie probably omitted Lebron for Ray because it was RAY who hit the shot to save Lebron's legacy.
