See that would be cheating that cap and this is the point of the cap hold.... You can definitely resign guys that you own their bird rights on... The bird rights provision is what allows team's to go over the cap to sign their own players..But with that each player you have bird rights on they have an individual cap hold..and it's based on the players previous years salary... That cap hold is like a built in amount of money out of your cap space that you cannot use on any new free agents...


In lebrons case his cap hold is something crazy next summer like 50 million so that's 50 million of the lakers cap space already earmarked for LeBron …. The way to get around this is for the lakers to renounce LeBrons bird rights but then like I said they’d only have that 70 million to split between he and Kyrie
