Dame>>>>>Kyrie

It’s not remotely close, Kyrie’s a beast but he’s never had a single season putting a team on his back.

Dame does it year in and year out. He would have taken Boston to the ECF and potentially further.

"Dame can do everything on everybody else's squad but his own" - word to @MostReal.

Dame > Kyrie and that's because the skill, talent and efficiency gap (which slightly favours Kyrie) is nowhere near large enough to make up for the fact that Dame isn't made of glass. He's played 81 more regular season + playoff games despite coming in a year after Kyrie, almost a whole regular season despite Kyrie having a headstart :mjtf:, you can't ignore the amount of production you get out of Dame that you simply don't get out of Kyrie because he's not even on the court. Neither are really first options on a conventional NBA championship team because they're not good enough defensively or off the ball (like Curry). Guys were barking up the wrong tree when they tried to prop up Dame at Curry's expense but Kyrie's definitely behind Dame. Dame could have given the Cavs most if not all of what Kyrie gave during that championship run and he actually would have been on the court for 2015.

The disparity in contracts between Dame and Kyrie in 2017/18 (when Kyrie got traded to the Celtics) means that the Boston team Dame would have had would have been weaker than the team Kyrie had (which had 8 guys getting double digits in PPG that year).

In a hypothetical scenario where contracts are equal between Dame and Kyrie I actually agree with you mainly because:

  • The Celtics reached the ECF and took it to 7 games without Kyrie who was injured and Rozier was running point.
  • Dame is nowhere near as injury prone as Kyrie and he would have been on the court producing with Rozier adding scoring from the bench.
  • Depending on what happens with Kyrie in 2017 and what the Cavs get in return for Kyrie if he's traded the Celtics would possibly get past the Cavs in the ECF.
  • There wouldn't have been the same contract and locker room drama Kyrie brought last season if Dame was plugged into that team instead of Kyrie, the Celtics squad seem to be a lot more harmonious with Kemba leading the way and Dame seems to be a lot closer to Kemba than he does Kyrie personality wise judging by his interviews and how people talk about his leadership (like CJ and Melo) so maybe last season isn't as traumatic and they build on 17/18.
Having said all that would the Coli still love Dame in that alternate reality :jbhmm:? He wouldn't be the underdog anymore, especially when Hayward comes back and gets up and running. A team with a 17 PPG 4th option :patrice: coming out the East :patrice: playing in Boston :patrice:with Dame having come from the West himself :patrice: coming off a first round sweep in the playoffs before he jumped ship :patrice:same dude who had to complain to get on an all-star team :patrice:.

That's a recipe for Coli fukkery :manny:. Nothing that team does would count around here. Asterisks everywhere. Dame would be getting called all sorts of frauds.

I don't understand why folks keep spamming this point about Kyrie being made of glass as if it's the defining factor. Yes, if his potential was completely unrealized, and he didn't have one of the greatest playoff runs for a guard in NBA history, then I'd get it. But we've seen him play around 600 NBA games, and he's proven himself on the biggest stage of all; being made of glass doesn't detract away from that. It only would if what they've both proven was on a relative scale, where it would be the separator in the comparison.

Like I've said, time and time again:

The difference between Kyrie and Dame is, Kyrie has a greater skillset and ability to generate and maximize runs down the stretch when the game slows down, whereas Dame is somewhat limited in what he can do when defenses zone in on him. Dame's more of an opportunistic scorer, whereas Kyrie can flick the switch on any possession. That's where he separates himself from Dame.

What has Dame proven as a no.1 option? Nothing. Never mind the fact that he's had far better support casts than Kyrie ever did. Dame has never been on a bad team, even from his rookie season. Meanwhile, Kyrie was out here with Dion Waiters as his sidekick.

Kyrie had his chances in a poor East even with Boston.

Dame has done more in the west as a #1 option . These are facts & no amount of your mental gymnastics will change this

This isn’t even to say Ky ain’t the more skilled player but as the leader of a team Dame has proven better

The poor East? That's a funny way of interpreting it when they lost to the Bucks. Especially since Dame got swept by a Warriors team last season without Durant, and who started the likes of McKinnie and Bell.

It doesn't matter what you think he's done - it's amounted to nothing. Kyrie proved himself on the biggest stage of all. Those are the facts.

Dame's resume is a couple of game-winners in the 1st/2nd rounds, which cover up the stink of the rest of his subpar postseason runs. It's funny how he's been swept multiple times (in his prime, nonetheless) yet nobody wants to talk about that.

:lolbron:

I don't have a definitive top-10, but these players are in the mix (in no exact order):

MJ
Bron
Shaq
Cap
Kobe
Duncan
Bill
Dream
Bird
Wilt
Magic

Now, gon'head and point out my hypocrisy.

Man the number of you rating dame above kyrie :mindblown:

Y’all need to get your head checked or at least ur eyes :camby:

One’s a champion who played as big a role as bron and made tough shot after tough shot when it counts

The other is max contract guard on a middling team, who’s accomplished nothing in the playoffs and likely wont

I agree with you that Dame isn't necessarily over Kyrie (its a toss up to me)...

But yall gotta stop with this "Kyrie played as big of a role as LeBron" shyt. Kyrie wouldn't be in the position to hit those tough shots (100% credit for hitting big shots) without LeBron; he's a 9-year vet who has played 6 of his 9 years without LeBron, and hasn't hit a big shot in a meaningful moment without LeBron...

The reverse is obviously untrue. I dont know why dudes find it so hard to give Kyrie credit without going overboard, and it correlates with this desire to take credit away from LeBron...

The tie that binds Dame and Kyrie us one has never done anything important without playing next to a GOAT, and the other has never played with a GOAT and has never done anything of significance outside of two Rd 1 gamewinners...

No doubt. Nobody wins championships on their own, and to be such a good sidekick puts him in at least bosch / gasol circles in terms of impact. I wont say wade because it was only one series plus wade is much much more accomplished seperately. Maybe Rip Hamilton would be another good comparison, but that series was quite unique.

At the end of the day, a championship holds far more weight than many other things. Kyrie proved himself on the biggest stage - he could retire today and be content with his career.

Will be interesting to see how he links up with yours truly next season.

Point a lot on this board misses, is dame hasn’t achieved anything - he’s an above average guard and thats it. If you have a license to shoot, its not THAT hard to be a primary scorer on your team and do the things hes done.

Happy for him to prove us wrong this year.
