How do you think business owners respond to increased wages?

If you're referring to fast food, if they go up to $15/hr (from what, 9.50?), burgers that were 1.59 will most likely go to 2.19 conservatively. Not exactly what most dumbasses in this and all pay raise threads want to make us believe.

Tell that to these scam ass posters that defend that dumb shyt. Rent in LA and NY should never cost more than 1k, no matter mow much good paying skilled jobs exist. Only greedy land owners do that shyt.
No, demand does that. Even when I lived in Chicago and was searching for an apartment, you had folks offering more cash up front (6 months rent) and to pay 100-200 more per month for rent, why? Because they had the money and the demand was high thus they went above and beyond to secure their spot. This arbitrary $1000 cutoff of yours is crazy. Lastly, no on is entitled to their own place, if $1000 is your budget either get a roommate, rent a room in a house, or live in a less desireable area (not necessarily crime ridden, but an area that's further out). People are moving back into cities and closer to jobs, rents are going up all over the country, get used to it or move to the burbs.

2 years ago my old apartment was $1200 for 2 bed room apartment

now its $1600 and they are begging people to move in because so many moved out

if they woulda kept it at $1200 and maybe lowered what they paid the management there by 5% or so they woulda retained the customers instead of trying to swindle people into $1600 a month for 800 square feet apartments :francis:

I mean I can see $50 increase in rent cause they have about 200 apartments or so thats an extra $120k a year in revenue :heh:

but $400 increase :stopitslime: and you cant use the excuse thats what the market is dictating cause

1) a lot of empty houses/apartments, so obviously people cant afford it
2) the people who were tenants had to move out because of the price increase
3) people dont want to move in because its too expensive
4) no other apartments in the area are charging that pricing, so where did they come up with the new $400 extra a month excuse outside of "new management" :francis: people were already struggling to pay $1200 a month, cause not only is that already high but taxes in california are ridiculous :mindblown: on top of PG&E + if you got services like comcast/at&t uverse im sure are higher priced in california than in other states cause they can get away with it :pacspit:
There are some greedy land lords out there I agree. Especially if they haven't filled the apt. Are you in the bay?

People keep arguing whether raising the wage will raise the prices. How about the worker? Raising minimum wage this much will make it HARDER for the low skilled worker to find get one of these low skill jobs with higher wages and pretty much gives employers other criteria to use in hiring, like race, age, sex, class etc. low skilled workers are getting priced out of the market essentially.

This means that 15 year old Jose will not get the burger flipping job that will keep his non English speaking family afloat because the job went to 22 year old Sarah w/ a liberal arts degree who can't find a job after college and otherwise would live off her parents as opposed to flipping burger. She'll flip burgers now if she can make an entry level salary. Employers are thinking Why pay little Jose the money when I can just pay the educated white one.

It's more complex than your Big Mac rising in price.

In an all Hispanics area would be looking for people that can speak Spanish

Little Jose will be OK.

Not necessarily. I majored in economics so businesses know a noticeable spike in prices will turn consumers off drastically so the odds are a little tick in prices but unemployment and layoffs are more eminent.
Also the reverse is true.

For example, if all the markets in an area raise prices and one declines to, it will absorb errant shoppers from the other higher priced venues until it becomes more profitable by volume instead of margin.
The higher priced stores will be unable to return to the lower price point at all due to the catch 22 of them now having less clientale and they will go under and fold.

Its first year economics. Marketshare sustainability.

But the short-sighted leap at perceived quick return. Thats why many stores try abd price gouge at every turn.
Those stores would do so much better if they built brand loyalty and return business.

If I go to buy a bag of chips or a canned drink and the price is clearly printed on the bag or can by the manufacturer but the merchant attempts to charge me over that price, I don't return to that store. Period.
I'll ride my bike 8 blocks to the grocery store for a bag of chips and pass by 3 korean liquer stores on the way. Those stores are dead to me.

From Atlanta to San Fran to LA 4now
:mjlol:

On top of being vague as hell...........You think these jobs aint in Atlanta?
Hold up you cant compare the sheer amount of jobs/opportunites to a place like NY/LA trust me I've lived in both and like most said ATL is small as hell and surrounding ATL marietta/alpharetta/decatur its not very many places to work there. I had it sweet there but I wasnt gonna advance my career staying in the south let alone anywhere outside of ATL/Charlotte. So yea I pay a hell of alot more in rent but my career has advanced by me moving to LA and SF. Its all relative look at all those tech jobs you think you can attract talent to work for your company in flucking North dakota or wisconsin of course not so people run to these big cities for a percieved better life/opportunity/career/woman etc. I think $15 is about right for cali for an entry level job.
