Same with mine. They don't have butterflies and all that crap, but at the end of the day, they have a solid foundation - similar values, they accept each other's flaws, tolerate one another's sour moods, and are able to have great conversations on the same intellectual level, which keeps them stimulated and interested in conversing with one another.

Happiness does come from within because you can be with the most amazing person, but if you're unhappy with yourself, you will find faults with him/her.
