For one Bill Simmons started this rumor so its just his idea.

Secondly, Russell and and the #2 pick would be good value for PG but only if PG wanted out and had leverage, which he doesnt. Teams dont look at current production when judging young guys and draft prospects. Players drafted top 2 are more likely than not to become stars. Ben Simmons is more highly regarded as a prospect than PG ever was. You got to have good vision to make strong trades. People laughed at The Grizz for trading Pau for his brother, look how that turned out. Ben Simmons and D'angelo Russell would be great value for the Pacers. According to Bill, executives around the league think highly of Russell and most expect him to be an all-star relatively soon. With that said, Lakers might not even get the pick. And shouldnt do this unless they got other FA lined up forsure forsure. Lakers need to sign a 3 and a Center and continue the rebuild. Theyve hit on every draft pick so far, even the late ones. Max out Barnes and sign a center.

Thats if we lose our pick. Im not getting my hopes up about keeping the pick. If we lose it we got a huge hole at SF, he fits our needs (perimeter shooting and defense), is still young, and is familiar with Luke's system. Yes its risky, but id rather do that than pay DeRozan or trade all our assets for a star. Barnes numbers could explode with more usage.

Name a "superstar" that the Lakers supposedly HAVEN'T targeted over the past several years now since they've been trash? All of that "do it Mitch" and look what you have to show for it.

Maxing Barnes because you lost the pick would be a terrible panic move

it wouldnt be a panic move, more of a projection move. Its not like we're signing a 28 year old Demarre Carroll. Barnes only 23 and could reach closer to his potential in a bigger role

He hasn't shown anything in his career to justify giving him max money or that he can be a cornerstone for a franchise

He's pretty much benefiting from his high school/college hype still and playing for an ATG team

I disagree strongly about Barnes

A max deal would be drastically overpaying

any team outside of the warriors(due to cap anyway) SHOULD NOT be looking to max out barnes
