As I stated in the Series thread, this is more a product of LeBron than it is the Warriors. The NBA Finals is always a ratings boon when Bron is in it, but in general the NBA has seen a serious upward trend in TV ratings since the Celtics Big 3 formed in 2008. Things really, really took off after the Miami-era though.

Second part is mostly true, not sure on the first part (when speaking of game one ratings only). It's a combination of Lebron + Steph + Major Market. Lebron's been in the previous 4 finals and only put up ~ 9.0 vs. boring teams (Spurs/Mavs) and a 9.9 vs. an exciting team (OKC/Durant), but they were a small TV market.

If Lebron faces a boring team (Spurs/Memphis/etc.) it's probably a 9.0, if he faces a team with a marketable star (OKC-Durant-Russ/Houston-Harden) it's probably a 10, if he faces a team in a big market with marketable stars (GSW-Steph, LAC-CP3/Blake) it's probably this 12.0

Warriors are white America's team not surprised. :sas2:

Expect a Jordan/Kobe-esque cult following for Curry after he wins the 'Ship & FMVP.
How are they white America's team :what:

Helll the majority of Cacs at my job hate the NBA and stay talking about the fukking Stanley Cup.

For sure LeBron brings ratings cause people either watch to see him win or lose.

Then they're playing a GS team with the league MVP rising star seeking their 1st championship so most people assume the series will be competitive.

Not shocked ratings were high.

Why do you think Steph got more allstar votes than LeBron?
Probably because he deserved it? The Cavs started off their season terribly.

You just posted a screenshot of a list of Final Ratings.

The 12.9 rating in the OP is an overnight rating. Overnight ratings are initial and always get skewed lower once the Final Rating comes out.

So the comparison makes 0 sense. I get what you're trying to say. Just an fyi.

its the new thing now...Super Bowl has always done it now all the other sports are following. Hell everyone was bytching about the NFL pushing the draft back and then of course the ratings are higher.
Yup. The other side is the idea that people will lose interest and stop caring. But really who is actually watching the first 3 rounds of the playoffs then skipping the finals cuz they had to wait a week to see it? Nobody. It just gives the media time to create hype/narratives and gives casual fans enough time to get caught up and start "fake caring"...

Oh ok, well I just looked it up and I think the argument generally still stands. Last years overnight was 10.4 and skewed down to 9.0. This overnight 12.9 will get skewed down to what ... 11.5? 11.0? 10.5? It surely won't drop to a 9.0 final rating. That just brings it inline with the OKC comparison with a bump from the California audience.

Lebron vs. "boring" team = 9.0 (Lebron alone provides a +1.0 to +1.5 bump vs. previous finals average)
Lebron vs. team with a star = 10.0
Lebron vs. team with a star + market = 11.0

The people love the Dubs. Not just white people. When I think of a team that's white America's team I think of Utah or San Antonio. We only have one American born white guy on our team and that's David Lee.

when u say the people u mean everybody
but i can tell u whites love ur Dubs way way way more then nikkaz
