NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Actually in recent years, even with the decrease in album sales and the 360s, artists seem to have learned from some of the mistakes that they were making in the 90s. Artists nowadays, especially in Hip Hop seem to be much better prepared for the cut throat business environment of the record industry.

I'm not saying 360 deals are this great thing but just trying to shine a light on the opposite spectrum of signing such a deal. It's not ALL bad. These guys are still managing to make a lot of money and in some instances a 360 can even help that.

I feel u..I just feel the industry now especially for a major..theres less room for artistry..too much business..amd the risks are way higher...

Biggest thing labels messed up on was not taking advantage when MP3's took off. They were so slow in accepting.

Haha a whole bunch of smart dumb nikkas in this thread :troll:

Homie posts a video from 2009 talking about the music industry n thinks he dropping gems.

Deals rappers are getting now >>> Deals rappers were getting in the 90s.

Ask Dr.Dre, Dj Quik , Pac, Ice Cube n em about signing deals :mjpls:

Creativity wise, they already took off that shyt a long time ago, all new gen artists have almost complete creative control. If you really know how the game go, you would know that signing to a major nowadays is more safer than signing to a indie label. As a rapper imo, you should either go Major or do it ya self. No inbetweens. Causing indie labels rape a artist way harder than a major do.

Google The Cool Kids and peep how they have been struggling and suing their old indie label for the past half a decade for freedom out their contract.

You could have came in this thread and humbly gave your opinion but instead you decided to come in insulting people who are simply having a conversation and sharing information. Almost as if you were looking for attention.

You wanted to make sure your post was read and replied to...well, because you so desperately need attention to the point you would insult your fellow coli breh-thren, I will give you the attention.

To the coli, on and on. Am I my breh's keeper? YES I AM! :blackfist:

You are my coli breh. Feast with the attention that I am bestowing upon you.

^^^Finally someone with some sense on here.

Im gonna take it one step further. Pac signed a 3 album "get out of jail free" deal...after 7 day theory woulda dropped pac woulda been a free agent again.

He put out his 3 disc requirement in less than a year. Even if pac signed a bad deal, he wrote quality material so fast that he coulda been like..."fukk 3 albums let me get up out this max pen and get free." I bet you Max B would sign that same deal right now if you could get him out of jail.

I would sign a 1440 deal if I knew I could be out of jail and be out of the contract in like 9 months. :whew:

That's true but that's why it's called the Music BUSINESS... these artists who sign (Lupe) act like they didn't know what they were getting themselves into...

It is a business but thats no excuse for the bullshyt...if u make money off what u do of course its business but u as an artist should have more say with the music and art u put out...there should be WAY more of an artistic compromise for an artist than it is...cause these nikkas is already screwing u on the money side of things...

Not disagreeing with you I'm just saying that since it's a business there should be no surprise at the lack of control during situations...

You also gotta realize that sometimes these a$$holes are correct. Atlantic let Lupe do whatever he wanted & after 2 albums that didn't total a million copies & the "Nothing On You" fiasco they put Lupe in the studio with a proven hitmaker & hand picked producers to help him with his 3rd Album... and it went platinum...

So at the end of the day while a bunch of underground heads are upset at Lupe's 3rd Album the suits in the office know a million people bought it & it generated millions of dollars...

You see what I'm saying?

Puttin out albums like his 3rd album can fukk alotta shyt up in my opinion...cause it can fukk ur initial fan base over and u dont want that...I would rather have an artist to go gold every time with a set fanbase than to go platinum once and drop off the earth cause it was done with disposable fans...that nothing on you situation was an insult cause Lupe proved he can write hits before that and not only did they try to force a song on him..they didnt even wanna pay him for the shyt...they tried to play him...

Exactly. Lets not pretend like Lupe wasn't GAINING traction as an artist before Lasers dropped. Food & Liquor wasn't a huge seller, but The Cool went Gold and topped out at around 800k (almost platinum) with Lupe, as an artist, doing it HIS way. Atlantic fukked around, held the gun to his head and forced him to record music that wasn't a true representation of his artform. Yes the album Lasers sold, but it turned off his initial fanbase so much that when he went BACK to his original formula, the fans were skeptical, the teeny boppers looking for another Show Goes On abandoned him, and the album failed to have the impact that it DESEREVED to have made.
