I’m not going to comment on his innocence or guilt (I don’t think the doc is going to change minds on either side).
What I thought was interesting were the mixed emotions the two men had. They said MJ molested them, but still felt very sad when he died, and they both seemed to truly love him, despite what they alleged. I’m interested in psychology, so this interplay is fascinating to me. I thought that was the best part of the doc, and it is where it truly shines. Like, that interplay between negative and positive emotions is very intriguing. I’d like to see it explored elsewhere.![]()
Kids can fall in love just like the rest of us and just as hard - we're just supposed to protect them from it until they're old enough to handle it. That's why paedophilia has such a huge impact on people into adulthood tbh - it's the dichotomy of the whole experience... Here's a person they learnt to love, to hold as a hero and a best friend... someone who they felt they had "that" connection with... and then they have to realise at some point that although their entire brain chemistry is configured to be devoted to a person, that person is actually an evil predator that's stolen their childhood.
It's real easy to give in to the easier story to live with - keep idolising them secretly and romanticising the memories... eventually you make some next kid feel special like you did.
Love is our best quality and biggest weakness.
