LeBron James is not expected to entertain the possibility of re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers on a lesser contract should he opt out to become a free agent this offseason, sources tell The Athletic. Last offseason, James became a free agent and was reportedly willing to take less money if the Lakers were able to convince James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, Klay Thompson or Jonas Valanciunas to sign with the team. Because the Lakers didn't sign any of those players, James re-signed at his max.

James is widely expected to remain with the Lakers, but sources close to him and team sources would not rule out the possibility of him finishing his career with another team. Sources say James also has had concerns about the state of the Lakers' roster.

James has a player option for 25-26 worth $52.6 million. James is expected to be named to one of the All-NBA teams this season as he remains one of the NBA's best players at the age of 40.

Looking at the FA market for this year and it’s not what it was last year

They mentioned Derozan, Harden, Klay.. he was willing to take less for those guys

Anyone in this FA class isn’t to that level on first glance. Some of the guys who would be (Myles Turner) they couldn’t even get even if he took the vet min

I genuinely did.. not realizing that the best the Lakers could do would be Capela. Name the FA on the market?

Who is Bron taking a $20 mil paycut for?

This is why Silver, Nike and the networks told Nico/Dumont/Adelson to get rid of Luka but not to ask for too much.

Bron gon be gone. Luka is good enough to keep them in the 45-ish win range, maybe 50 until they retool the roster around him.

League did not want the Lakers to be minus LeBron until a suitable young superstar could take his place.

LeBron can do whatever now as far as they're concerned.
