Bomani said it best on his podcast, the double standard athletes face has allowed Daryl Morey to duck all this smoke despite being the one that started this but this isn’t new behavior from Lebron. He mentioned the fact that Lebron refused to comment on Tamir Rice because it happened in Cleveland and shytting on Cleveland police would have affected his pockets. Lebron’s not gonna take a social stance that is gonna jeopardize his dollars. shytting on Trump is safe.

Morey is skating now because Harden apologized and then the Rockets went on a full court press of saying nothing to let it die down.

That second part is what people are arguing LeBron should have done and we have prime examples of it being effective in both Morey and Harden

On the First 48 podcast a Lakers beat reporter that was in China with the team said that essentially what happened was LeBron didn’t like Morey for some other reason before this all happened, LeBron then asked the Commissioner to punish Morey on behalf of the league for this incident, then because Morey wasn’t punished LeBron tried to take these shots at him which led to the backlash.

The league can’t punish Morey at this point because it will come off as punishing him for free speech.

LeBron could have just said that players safety was at stake and everyone would have been fine with that, but him not liking Morey previously for whatever reason clouded his statement

I don’t have a horse because quite frankly, I don’t know or care enough about the Chinese/HK conflict but it would have been so much smarter for Lebron to just keep quiet. I do agree with the notion that black people shouldn’t be the spokespeople for all social issues because that’s how other races/causes end up disingenuously co-opting our shyt.

He’ll tweet just about anything in support, but when it comes action (i.e. taking 5 minutes after practice to talk to the father of a 5-month killed by drive by), he falls way short. Eh the thing is he was safer doing that (in a sense) then speaking about China. Nike and whoever else pays,sponsors,etc Lebron probably gives somewhat of a leeway with what he can say about certain things.Talking about Trump or NFL Nike & other brands can take losing sales cause the majority of ppl that agree with that same type of talk (i.e trump is a racist bum, the NFL is racist, Kaep was right, etc) offsets the loss in a way. This china shyt pretty much everyone around the world except the buisness like Nike that make money due to china agrees that shyt PRC is doing is foul and should change. Hell, Nike might agree too but they know if they say anything against China they will have them shoe factories outta there so quick that Nike will take major losses.

Yea I read also Silver told Lebron that him and other players have spoke out on Trump and other issues and he never punish them
