Lebron speaks up on Black issues that directly impact his community such as police killing unarmed blacks. That’s always been his focus, so unless he ignores that for the mighty dollar he didn’t sell out. Let China/Hong Kong sort out there problems.

but he also spoke up about someone elses outspokeness when he really didn't have to:francis:

Lebron James doesn't represent Hong Kong and he not Chinese so who did he sell out?
Lebron James only has an obligation to black people and that's it.

Where's Jackie Chan, they need to be hollering at Jeremy Lin about this shyt

hold your own nuts, lmao human right violations, its a bunch of chinese people made they won't be able to commit crimes in china and come back to hong kong and not get extradited this is what all these protests are really about some bullshyt, probably orchestrated by the CIA

Lebron himself said he stands for every kid around the world.
He even paid a videogame to include his More Than an Athlete, stand up for something written by his own production company... even if it costs you everything
storyline just for this message. Now a month later he backtracking?

"It took me a while to understand the responsibility, the opportunity that I was given...

"You know, I speak for those without a voice, people who grew up like I did: poor, without hope...

"Those people, those kids, they exist on every corner of the globe, and they're all deserving of a chance...

"I believe no one person is capable of turning the tide, but we all have an obligation, because somewhere along the way somebody picked us up."

No he didn't, he answered a question the media asked him, also he didn't say he should stay silent, he said his comments are misinformed which is a fact.

The protest in Hong Kong is not about human rights it's not about China, it's about the Hong Kong government passing a law that would allow criminals to be extradited from hong kong to mainland china because hong kong tourist committed some murders

How is he back tracking

Nothing is happening in to the kids Hong Kong

You don't even know what the protest is about, THAT'S WHAT LEBRON POINT WAS

You have no idea what you are talking about and just spewing nonsense

this country is at the lowest point in history in stupidity and willful ignorance

The protest is not about human rights in Hong Kong and really has nothing to do with China which doesn't even govern Hong Kong

When financial considerations win out, that is selling out. I agree, he shouldn't be held up as the ambassador to Asia but we can't act like he was just saying that shyt from his heart.

but he also spoke up about someone elses outspokeness when he really didn't have to:francis:

That outspokenness did directly affect him.

LeBron spoke on issues after others spoke up first.... he should have calmly said I can’t speak on something I don’t know about and bounced.. people need to stop calling him some type of pioneer of causes

dwade started the hoodie for Trayvon

it was Derrick Rose who started the tshirt I can’t breathe but the media gave LeBron credit

when it came to Tamir Rice in his own backyard LeBron stayed back from the situation

no hate for LeBron but give credit to others

i agree with all of this. lebron should've just said what everyone else said and that it's a complicated issue, which it is. let the politicians worry about foreign relations and diplomacy. just stupid for ppl to expect athletes to comment on foreign politics and events.

and lebron should've worded his thoughts better too. throwing morey under the bus and saying people need to consider what they say was bad and saying there's financial ramifications isn't a good look for him. he has a great PR team so not sure how they didn't prepare for this.

he spoke on travon martin and wore a hoodie and had a i can't breathe shirt in public. not sure what more you want him to do.

the only knock i can think of him is leaving tamir rice's family hanging dry by not commenting or showing any support.
I think what some want him to do is stop being the "woke" version of a bully. How can you comment on the easy stuff that you'd really get no pushback on but in your own city don't have shyt to say? You can take the China stuff out of the equation but that situation showed you that Lebron like most people (so no beef from me) will take easy stuff with no real pushback and go quiet when shyt is real.

Well duh! Saying a person with billionaire aspirations sold out is like saying a stripper doesn't have clothes on. Bron should've kept his mouth shut or got with his people to get his statement together. He sounded horrible. Everyone can't speak off the top an he's never been the most eloquent anyway. That said, this whole "controversy" is some bullshyt. First off, most people don't give a fukk about Hong Kong or shyt even what's going on down the street from them so the sanctimonious outrage is just plain laughable. More importantly, this is Morey's mess. Morey, Houston's owner, and Silver should be answering for it, not Bron or any other player. You put these nikkas in possible harms way in another country and then when they get back you let them take all the heat for it without saying a word? That's way more egregious and the real story here but hey Bron aka The Colisuem is involved so we know what that means.

Superb post and points made.

That idiot Morey made a comment and inflamed an already tense geopolitical situation between America and China (Xi vs Trump trade war) but LeBron is the one having to answer for it? Silver should’ve paraded Morey out to make that statement and leave the players out of it.

For the record, I’ve paid attention to the HK situation and there’s nothing wrong with being aware of struggles going on around the world. But for someone like LeBron, this was a terrible move from the jump and he should’ve took the advice that he gave to Morey about understanding the ramifications of speaking on a subject he admittedly doesn’t know much about. With that said, the reaction is almost less surprising than LeBron trying to protect his money.

yours news is outdated. the legislature said they would withdraw that bill way back in july. the protesters been have 5 demands they want met that includes the withdrawal of the extradition bill.

moreys tweet was simply this:
Fight for Freedom. Stand With Hong Kong.”

now these are the demands of the protesters

2019 Hong Kong protests - Wikipedia
Objectives
Initially, protesters solely demanded the withdrawal of the extradition bill. Following an escalation in the severity of policing tactics against demonstrators on 12 June and the bill's suspension on 15 June, the objective of the protesters has been to achieve the following five demands:[70]

  • Complete withdrawal of the extradition bill from the legislative process: Although Chief Executive announced indefinite suspension of the bill on 15 June, reading on it may be quickly resumed. The bill was "pending resumption of second reading" in the Legislative Council. On 4 September, Carrie Lam announced that the formal withdrawal of the bill will be processed by Secretary for Security John Lee in the Legislative Council later.
  • Retraction of the "riot" characterisation: The government originally characterised the 12 June protest as "riots". Later the description was amended to say there were "some" protesters who rioted. However, protesters contest the existence of acts of rioting during the 12 June protest.
  • Release and exoneration of arrested protesters: Protesters consider the arrests to be politically motivated; they also question the legitimacy of police arresting protesters at hospitals through access to their confidential medical data in breach of patient privacy.
  • Establishment of an independent commission of inquiry into police conduct and use of force during the protests: Civic groups felt that the level of violence used by the police on 12 June, specifically those against protesters who were not committing any offences when they were set upon, was unjustified; police performing stop-and-search to numerous passers-by near the protest site without probable cause was also considered abusive.[71] Some officers' failure to display or show their police identification number or warrant card despite being required to do so by the Police General Orders is seen to be a breakdown of accountability.[72] The existing watchdog, Independent Police Complaints Council lacks independence, and its functioning relies on police co-operation.
  • Resignation of Carrie Lam and the implementation of universal suffrage for Legislative Council and Chief Executive elections:[73] Currently, the Chief Executive is selected by a 1,200-member Election Committee, and 30 of the 70 Legislative Council seats are filled by limited electorates that represent different sectors of the economy, forming the majority of the so-called functional constituencies.

what part of moreys tweet contradict the overall demands of the protesters?:jbhmm:

Lebron played himself with his more than an athlete branding because now folks hold him to a higher standard than politicians. Lebron really shouldn't be expected to speak on issues that aren't pertaining to the African American experience. Hong Kong is beyond his purview. It isn't reasonable to expect him to be on some Ali shyt. And just because he isn't doesn't discredit what he's said or done in the past.

He also said he doesn’t know if he wouldn’t sell out, if he was in LBJ’s position :ld:
Now you know a lot of these goofball nikkas don't actually watch shyt but just read the headlines and start yacking like bytches. You can tell by some of the replies they just saw the thread title and reacted.

But you just said it, the perception of LeBron has become different from reality. Build schools, help your people, if possible lend support to other causes you sympathize with, but if you’re on the trajectory that LeBron is on then there should be no delusions about him being some social rights leaders.

Some posters made a great point too in that this should make this country begin to question all this money/profit worship. It perpetuates the inequities in this country and prevents people from speaking on shyt for fear of threatening the bottom line.
