there's so much dumb shyt in this thread

I can see we're just going to argue against controlling narratives. The controlling narrative is that Vince was an underachieving, softy, while Dr. J is this unquestioned legend and a top player of all time. Its almost impossible to argue against established conclusions that are so popular.
I dont think the facts square with this. DJ dominated a watered down ABA league, and experienced an immediate and significant drop off in production the year of the merger, and managed one nba titel. If anybody wants to provide evidence on why my claim is ridiculous, and why Dr J is anything close to one of the 3 best players of all time outside of anything powered by nostalgia and bias, Im all ears. Saying Dr. J is comparable to Vince is far more reasonable than saying hes a GOAT candidate. The latter is insanity.
The same advantages as a basketball player Michael Jordan has over larry bird Kobe does as well.
So one would be a hypocrite saying MJ is better and not Kobe. I feel the same way about Magic

kobe is literally the reincarnation of jordan
I don't care about controlling narratives. And Vince Carter is an underachieving softy. I've actually played against Vince Carter, and he is by far one of the most talented players of his generation. Since before the NBA I've been telling people how special he is when he's on his A game. Still, he has been prone to drifting generally under-utilizing his phenomenal ability to play basketball since college. There were games when he was improbably the 4th best Carolina player on the court. With his talent, that's incredible.
But I don't even care about that. Because Vince Carter was still amazing at playing basketball in the NBA and uniquely entertaining to watch. But he does nothing clearly better than Dr. J except shoot 3s at a better rate and a higher frequency. He shoots freethrows slightly better, and is a better in-game dunker, but even that's close. And Dr. J didn't experience some astronomical drop in production when he joined the NBA, he simply had more talented teammates than he did in the ABA, so the number of shots he took went down. He still shot around or above 50% year in and year out, was a better rebounder than Vince, a much better defender, was an efficient scoring machine, actually had a mean jumper (the myth that has prevailed is Dr. J drove and dunked for all his points, which is simply not the case) and in addition to leading a team to a championship, the years he came up short he often he went toe-to-toe with some of the best players and best teams of all time in some of the most grueling playoff matchups ever. Their careers aren't really comparable. To say someone would "have a hard time" making a case for Dr. J being better than Vince Carter is, at the very least, a gross overstatement, and could be labeled as patently absurd.
Yeah cuz nobody has ever heard of Jordan, bird and dr ji think hes trying to hard to seem like a student of the game with those names.
