Exactly, and this is just scratching the surface of what this is really about.

The West has been waiting to disrupt HK’s return to China.

This “protest” is a cac driven propaganda tool so they can continue to use HK for trade and push capitalism in the region.

Ain’t got nothing to do with their freedom.

If America was so concerned with peoples freedom, there’s plenty of nations they could target, who don’t have the best human rights records, namely Saudi Arabia and Israel, but that won’t happen and we all know why...
Exactly and people fail to recognize the attention in the media on this. One note, hong kong has the number 1 capitalism and economic freedom in the world, they can do whatever they want. The rioters are messing up everyday life with train delays, road closures, pissing most people in hk off.

Then why doesn't Morey come out into the forefront and take the heat for the dumb tweet he made? Because he knows he fukked up. Actions have consequences.

China has been doing bad shyt for ages. If China wanted to be real petty they would call out the racial injustices blacks continue to face in the US. Or how the US is treating illegal immigrants.

But they won't because they don't care about what is happening to black people or immigrants in this country. Which is why black people shouldn't care about any of this shyt.

Idk when you quoting this from MLK you just can't pick an choose which injustices you dont care about otherwise don't quote it like you agree with it.

How is that any different from those NFL fans telling NFL players how and when they should protest? Moreys tweet blew up partially due to the timing. Bron is basically saying, dont protest while I'm there, it inconveniences me. Politics aside, it's a hypocritical stance. You either about freedom or speech or you aren't.
I don't know how people don't see this as an issue I personally don't give a fukk about what's going on in HK I'm pro hyon, but I for damn sure is not going to be hypocritical in telling someone when they can and can't speak on societal injustices. How I'm going to be over here calling the NFL players cowards for not speaking up over money but cosign lebron talking about the importance/business relations essentially with China :dahell:

not sure what was the point of Lebron commenting on this shyt he probably knows very little about the situation and figures since the Chinese are nice to him due to Chinese business interests and Nike that they can't be all that bad :russ::russ:

You dont agree with lebron saying wait a week until they are out of China to send the tweet?
In the context of him saying the tweet was wrong because it came from an uneducated place, no I don’t agree. It would’ve been just as uneducated a week later, and Lebron would’ve threw the cape on for Nike/NBA like he’s doing now.

If he meant wait until everyone is gone, then sure, I guess. But to double down by saying you have freedom of speech but be careful when you use it, just didn’t make any sense. He was better off saying that’s not his realm and he will look more into learning about that and other conflicts affecting people around the globe.

On Darfur, LeBron James drops the ball

James's teammate Ira Newble recently helped draft an open letter to the Chinese government, condemning its role in the ongoing genocide in Darfur. Everybody on the Cavaliers signed the letter except for James and Damon Jones. James said he didn't have enough information about the issue to take a stand. Mr. Jones wouldn't comment.

Lakers beat writer unloaded the choppa

LOS ANGELES — In a week that all Houston Rockets merchandise was spirited out of view in Nike stores throughout China, LeBron James remained in perfectly good standing across the Pacific.

In Shenzhen, less than an hour drive from the protesters in Hong Kong who are waging a fight for their sovereignty, the Nike Air Max LeBron 17, the newest signature sneaker that arrived in stores less than a month ago, was prominently displayed on a pedestal in the middle of the Swoosh’s showroom. Next to it rested a miniature Chinese flag.

The tableau told an important story, and said more about LeBron’s stake in the NBA’s China fiasco than anything he told a throng of reporters on Monday or in a separate huddle with the four American print reporters from The Athletic, ESPN and the Los Angeles Times who made the trek to China to cover the Lakers.

While many understandably chafed at James’ use of the word “misinformed” to describe Morey’s tweet — he later clarified he was referring to his perception that Morey misunderstood the repercussions, not on China-Hong Kong relations — the focus needs to be not just James’ imprecise language, but the truth his comments contained.

“I don’t want to get into a word or sentence feud with Daryl Morey,” James said, “but I believe he wasn’t educated on the situation at hand (when) he spoke and so many people could have been harmed, not only financially but physically, emotionally, spiritually.”

Notice the emphasis on financially?

Worth an estimated $450 million, LeBron is every bit as much a corporation as Apple, Calvin Klein and Marriott Hotels — just a sampling of American brands that have backpedaled in recent months after offending the Chinese sensibility on Hong Kong. To think he would respond differently than a conglomerate would be to underestimate the empire he has and, yes, its inherent dependence on China.

For James, this is not a moral issue or a constitutional one.

It’s Daryl Morey vs. LeBron money.

James, ever the capitalist, is choosing the money. Of course he is.

In a back hallway of Staples Center on Monday night, I asked James whether the last week had caused him to reconsider what it means to do business in China.

“For me, to do business in China is to play the game of basketball and inspire people to play the game of basketball,” he said. “And those things have been organic because I’ve been over there and preached the game of basketball. … The business is just a byproduct of me playing the game of basketball, me promoting the game of basketball. So that has been it.”

Organic, maybe. But certainly not accidental. James estimates he has made upward of 20 visits to China throughout his career: hawking shoes, promoting his media company, playing in the Olympics.

Now feels like a good time to mention that roughly 800 million people watched the NBA in China last season. That is close to 1.6 million feet requiring shoes (to say nothing of socks, which can also be bought with LeBron branding).

You know the quote long attributed to Michael Jordan? “Republicans buy sneakers, too?”

Well, if the footwear of fans I saw in Shanghai and Shenzhen offered a representative sample, Chinese people buy sneakers, too. Oh, do they ever. And they’ll be wearing them when they line up to see Space Jam 2 in the summer of 2021.

James is under no obligation to take a side in the cultural war between China and Hong Kong. Being vocal on social injustices at home does not commit one to taking a stand on international matters. But let’s not mistake James for an altruist in this situation.

LeBron is a businessman. That can’t be said enough times. And he views Morey as having needlessly bit the hand that feeds the NBA and, by extension, the Lakers star who eats, well, like a King.

Operating in China only works if you’re able to look the other way on the human rights violations and the repression. Those who profit in China accept the tradeoff.

The gravy train only runs on time if it stays on the tracks, and Morey’s tweet represented a potential derailment.

“Could have waited a week to send it,” James said in a tweet of his own.

If Morey had waited a week, you see, James could have still made his sponsored appearances. Kyle Kuzma would have been able to announce new endorsement deals as planned. While in China, Lakers Anthony Davis and Rajon Rondo also had appearances planned. Canceled. Canceled.

But free speech, it has been said, is often inconvenient.

Every question the NBA has endured of late about the morality of its dealings in China applies to LeBron. He has to answer questions now that he conveniently avoided before Morey tweeted.

No wonder James is angry.

“Yes, we all do have freedom of speech,” James said. “But at times there are ramifications for the negative that can happen when you’re not thinking about others, and you’re only thinking about yourself.”

For James, just like the NBA, the bottom line is the bottom line.

“Sometimes you have to think through things that you say that cause harm, not only for yourself, but for the majority of people,” he said. “And I think that’s just a prime example of that.”

And if Morey’s tweet is going to have repercussions, it is better for LeBron Corp. if the blowback is on Morey, not the NBA and certainly not on its players.

The other shoe will drop.

For his brand to prosper, James would hate for that shoe to be anything other than the LeBron 18s.

im surprised to see most of the posts going against LeBron on a so-called hip-hop site.
but then again, im not surprised.

yall go head and keep on getting influenced by the media.

besides, all LeBron said was wait until the players return home, before you hop on your soapbox.

He been saying that his entire career. The nikka is 35yrs old. Its an excuse he's been using to not have to address any issue until it no longer matters and he can benefit from it. :hhh:
Theres absolutely nothing wrong with becoming informed about an issue. Its the bare minimum to even HAVE an opinion on something but that nikka is informed. He just dont want to talk about it unless he can benefit from talking about it. So much so, that he will talk about something he admits he knows nothing about to admonish someone he says doesnt know what he's talking about. All because he stands to benefit from doing so.
