Downplaying rings when he was up there talking about not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6 when he joined Wade and Bosh is peak hypocrisy.

If rings didn't matter, why are you up there bragging about how many rings you're gonna win now that you got a superteam?

And now that you didn't win all those rings, they all of a sudden don't really matter? :gucci:

Bruh, everybody sees this for what it is. As great as Bron is, dude is mad insecure and have to do all these blatant dumb shyt to prop himself up.

Rings should be seen as a tie-breaker, not as the foundation of player evaluation.

Like if I compare power forwards like Barkley, Malone and Dirk....I'm giving Dirk the nod because all 3 were great players but Dirk led his team to the promised land. 1 ring but probably should have had AT LEAST 2, maybe 3 with slightly different circumstances (2006 & 2007).

Steph has 4 rings like Bron, but if we judged the players in a vacuum...no one would ever say Steph >> Bron. Bron is in the GOAT conversation even if he's not the GOAT. You can actually debate Wilt/MJ/KAJ/Bron. Steph is not in that conversation. He's a half-tier down with Bird, Magic, Kobe, Hakeem. Russell varies depending on how you value rings and defense.

The Logo himself, Jerry West? If he had 5 rings instead of one ring...how much higher would he be?

That segment was hard to watch because you had 3 guys trying to cope with their own failures. T-Mac & Gil had their chances and failed repeatedly, and J-Will never got a chance due to his own reckless actions. SAS was simply saying there are levels to greatness and you can't be a GOAT if you don't have a ring to go along with your accolades. Barkley & Ewing would be looked at much higher if they had a championship.

MJ was considered the GOAT before winning a ring. Dr J was the moar beloved player in the league as an 0-3 ringless NBA player.

There was a time before ring culture where fans appreciated players. That cant happen now.

What I cant stand about NBA ring culture is that its used as a condition to appreciate a player.

You cant tell me Melo isnt my favorite offensive player Ive ever watched. I dont care if hes ringless . I appreciated his game
No he wasn't, People questioned if he could ever win a title. He was seen as a great scorer but couldn't get it done.

Not one of them goofs ever called Barkley the greatest of all time
And its clearly a reason why
They're pushing this disingenuous bullshyt like they are called scrubs or bums
They're not but winning has to mean something
And how you win has to and will always mean something. That’s why that teaming up voltron bs will always get a side eye from ppl who lived it and know the context. Rings matter and not all rings are created equally. Idgaf what these nikkas talking about

Yes he was.
This was 1989.

:camby:

He was considered the GOAT before winning a ship. Yall dudes are overrating the questioning.

We all had no problem giving that title before winning a chip.

People appreciated greatness regardless of rings. Its why his pre ring 63 vs the Celtics was beloved. Im old enough to know a time before this bullshyt ring culture crap. People simply appreciated greatness regardless of hardware. Folks actually appreciated players.

Ring culture came post MJ.
