It’s like people are trying to catch up on praising possibly forgotten nba players now because “ring culture” took over. Barkley and Malone and them didn’t get rings, but they came up in a popular era which makes them still loved and talked about. Players like McGraxy and them seem to be forgotten or at least talked about less because people are worried about Jordan vs LeBron. It’s like now players have to make sure certain players aren’t forgotten when you talk about nba history.

You posted a MJ hater talking about countless examples, but there's literally plenty of sports analysts from back then that questioned if he could ever get it done. MJ had enormous pressure to win as he was seen as always coming up short.
I posted a GQ article. fukk the messenger.

MJ was GOAT status in the &0s, period .

How old were you then? The criticisms are overstated .

And yet, there are still countless examples of him being called the GOAT in interviews with people like Bob Knight to various announcers during game broadcasts.

Almost like once upona time, people understood that he could be the GOAT and that the best TEAMS would win championships. Basketball is a TEAM game, after all.

the even cleared up Rich Paul statement.
During Tuesday's installment of his "Mind the Game" podcast, James noted how important having a big man with Bosh's characteristics benefited the Heat team that went to four straight NBA Finals and won two titles.

"We didn't obviously in Miami my second year when 'Spo' was a genius to be able to move Bosh to the five," James said. "We played big early on with Joel Anthony and Chris Bosh or Udonis Haslem and Chris Bosh. I think when Bosh went to the five, it gave us some versatility as well.

"Being more athletic, being a lot longer, being able to open up the court a lot more so CB could hit the corner three."

That doesn't really seem like clearing up what Paul said. Clearing up what Paul said would be admitting Paul was wrong and was working to dead the big 3 narrative because that's what benefits LeBron.

The ridiculous part about it is they’re criticizing ring culture and how players are devalued when they spent the last 15 years devaluing Kobe for not getting the Finals MVP before :dead: the nerve of these nikkas :dead: Gilbert started his argument calling Kobe a “passenger” then expects us to care about LeBron being criticized when he just did the same thing.

According to them, rings only matter if you’re the Finals MVP. Shaq got them, fine but post-Shaq, Kobe went to three championships and won two. Shaq did NOTHING using those same rules. Why didn’t he start another dynasty as the main guy? Kobe's three rings (2000, 2001, 2002) gets discarded but for some reason, we’re supposed to care about Shaq’s ring in 2006.
That’s fr how they think lmao they did it with curry

Ring culture stupid but media and fans shytted on Kobe for 4 years for not having a ring without Shaq. Won 2 back to back then changed the rules saying he had Pau too.

Ring culture is a problem when certain players have a lot them:mjlol:
Exactly they move the goalposts constantly especially anytime they feel someone is coming close to their god Jordan

Right message, wrong messenger.

If Tyrese or SGA capture a ring this weekend, do they now by default have better legacies & careers than Malone, Iverson, Ewing, etc.? To me, absolutely not.
.
no. but SGA will be on pace... he already is after gettiing his first MVP so soon. OKC got its whole team under contract for next year too

Yes he was.
This was 1989.

:camby:

He was considered the GOAT before winning a ship. Yall dudes are overrating the questioning.

We all had no problem giving that title before winning a chip.

People appreciated greatness regardless of rings. Its why his pre ring 63 vs the Celtics was beloved. Im old enough to know a time before this bullshyt ring culture crap. People simply appreciated greatness regardless of hardware. Folks actually appreciated players.

Ring culture came post MJ.

a great non-NBA example is Ken Griffey
homie aint even make the playoffs for most of his career...yet nobody gave a fukk lol
