All Time includes all the way up to today.

Memphis doesn't have a stronger black musical legacy than (no order) LA, NY, Atlanta, Chicago, off rip. So then you're looking at the next level, does Memphis really have a stronger black catalogue than Philly, New Orleans, Houston?

Musically it might make the Top 10, but I don't think it's Top 5.

Black history and culture in general. Memphis' strongest claim to fames:

•being the major city and economic center of the Delta South, so blacks from all over the Delta tri-state flock to Memphis

•notable in the Civil Rights era

•imported blues from Mississippi and became a music city, which later turned Memphis into a blues hotspot, then a rock n roll hotspot, then a funk/soul hotspot, with famous artists and labels headquartered in Memphis

•later became a notable hip hop city

•Memphis is a basketball city from the ground up and every layer of the city is intertwined with basketball

These are Memphis' highlights. Is it enough to be a Top 10 black city historically, I'm not sure.

That’s not how it works tho

Memphis is a top 5 influence across multiple genres….rock, blues and soul

You’re looking at who got the most stars, and placing way too much emphasis on today. You’re downplaying the actual foundation of the music (which is why you have LA and Atlanta in front of New Orleans)

I went to Memphis to visit family about 3 years ago. Definitely wouldn’t want to live there. My brother was telling me that you can pressed in different areas based on the music your playing. You can’t play Gotti on this side. You can’t play Dolph on that side. Memphis is the only place I’ve been too where I’ve seen a Dollar General had bars on the window and had a security guard posted outside. My nephew had a Hellcat and would pump gas with a gun in his hand so he wouldn’t get jacked. He makes great money because he is a manager at FedEx and lives in a gated neighborhood outside the city. He keeps his cars in the garage whenever he expects deliveries because he says delivery people would mark houses to robbed if they see certain vehicles. His car eventually got stolen while he was eating in downtown Memphis. He had an insane amount of guns, like Tony Montana levels, in his house and an AR-15 in the backseat of his car. I asked if you have to do all this to feel safe, why don’t you leave, he said this is home and don’t want to leave anywhere else.

Outside of family, I have no desire to ever go back to Memphis, however I will say the food is delicious there. All the restaurants I went to was on point.

This is the most c00nnish I’ve ever seen. The code switching is insane. Total different speech pattern and inflection when he’s around these white boys compared to the shop or whatever that show he has is called. We’ve discussed before how the Memphis/Nashville comparison is dripped with racial/societal dog whistles and undertones. Modern day white flight. Disgusting a billionaire athlete would play into that. But I’m sure in his eyes, he’s not black he’s LBJ. Can we get an LBJplease emoji now?

lol at the faux outrage still going on :mjlol:

It was a wild thing to say, the way he said you’ve got NASCAR and Hockey in Nashville right? :mjlol:

That’s something Druski would say in a cac parody, but I’m not reacting stronger than my reaction to Trump defunding everything black like some people in here lol

You don’t see the connection between the defunding of things black and coincidentally majority black cities not being the best places to live?

My issue with the Bron thing is when you are around white people long enough you pick up on the cities they are constantly complaining about often times without them having actually ever traveled to those cities. I don’t doubt Bron doesn’t like Memphis. I’ve been there once and it didn’t look the best but wasn’t there long enough to form an opinion. Personally not a big deal just becomes a bigger deal due to some people due to the push to move the team and the optics of trashing black cities on a golf course with white people.

Say all that to say yes the outrage should be saved for Trump and state governments that starve black cities. Though I understand people feeling some type of way about what was said.

She’s funny lol

I mean that’s a pretty decent hotel room for a person to stay in for a couple hours. And it’s literally in walking distance to the arena. I’m guessing some nba players will stay there.

I would like to compare that place to this one

Me and wifey stayed here a few years ago and it’s one of my biggest flexes that she still talks about to this day… we literally sat in the lobby and watched the Chicago Bears team busses pull up to let them off at our hotel. That alone made me say we are staying there again one day lol.

The problem is they don't want to stay in a hotel that cost 2/300 a night with the Memphis riff raff :mjpls:

I don't blame them tbh. Westin is even my more go to "budget" hotel when I travel for work because they generally like us to stay under $400

The sooner people realize a lot of athletes are like them Mean Girl white girls...then their attitudes will make sense

There's nothing wrong with that hotel room

Look, Memphis is a wack as fukk, but I feel like the NBA or some entity is pushing narratives to get the team out of Memphis. You don't have to do that, just move the fukking team. It's insulting to the people Memphis to be this passive aggressive about the city and team.
I mean, the NFL did the exact thing to St. Louis, so it’s not beneath the carte…um, sports leagues to do this

This thread had led to an all time legendary crash out by 360Lames :laff: Half cac has been spazzing out for several days across multiple threads, all because his idol said some c00n shyt and he couldn’t admit it :dead:

These dudes have legit mental illnesses

Instead of just not commenting, or saying bron didn’t mean it like that, they’re brining up Kobe :dead:

These people are not normal

You got dudes arguing that making fun on bron always being on page 1 of a book is a dog whistle :russ:

I can respect this take, but this is what makes it so hard to quantify. Because you have to give due credit to modern music, and Memphis is not a significant player in modern music in any genre besides hip hop, and you can argue it's not Top 10 in hip hop.

The cities that have been dominant from 2000 to present deserve their respect, and alot of those cities had motion in other genres of the past too.

My counter would be that with Memphis, we over-value the past at the expense of the modern heavyweights. Memphis was once a heavyweight and gets its respect but Atlanta is a Top 3 hip hop city All-Time, and hip hop has both outlasted blues and soul as a genre and is exponentially bigger than those genres were at peak.

LA is a Top 3 hip hop city of All-Time and had motion in the blues era, plus LA's a heavyweight historically in rock and contemporary pop. Even if we just talking black music, I don't think its cut and dry that Memphis deserves more credit than Atlanta and LA.
