Steve Nash of the NFL (except he lucked into a ring). A guy that wasn't anything special in his first stop and they had no problem moving on without him. He goes to a new squad with this offensive guru and starts putting up stupid numbers. Always held up as an elite but not held to elite standards. Will get a pass for Ls and fukk ups and elevated over superior players because people in the media like him.
Yeah, I definitely can't rock with this...
Calling him Steve Nash is highly disrespectful. Brees spent five years in San Diego and was clearly ascending as a player when he hurt his shoulder. This wasn't some unproven commodity, SD was going off the premise he would never be the same because of the injury...
Part of his legacy HAS to be how the Chargers misjudged his bounceback potential and mishandled negotiations, because that franchise, but for two or three seasons, has been kicking the tires ever since, while Brees completely transformed the Saints organization. Thats part of his story and legacy, these dummies took the unproven potential of Rivers over Brees and got nothing but more January's at home than playoff appearances out of it...
What superior players is Brees rated higher than? This thread seriously makes me believe alot of you just dont remember when dude was at the top of his game, cats are characterizing him as a dink and dunk specialist as if you can put up multiple 5000 yard seasons without being able to stretch the field. Cats calling him a stat padder without recognizing that if he wasnt so prolific throwing the ball, the Saints woulda been the Aints all over again...
Nash never hit a peak the way Brees did, Brees' big misfortune, other than aging into ass after the Saints finally got good again circa 2017, is having the prime of his career parallel the primes of Manning, Brady, and Rodgers, while subsequently carrying average offensive talent (he and Payton really had Jimmy fukking Graham looking like a Hall Of Famer and that dude ain't been shyt since he left NO) and piss poor-to-downright horrendous defenses in his prime....
Dude is not without flaw---->he didn't play well outside of dome or warm weather environments when it counted nor did he play well on the road; he was a gunslinger and always was prone to a couple multi-turnover games each year, because his responsibility was so great he cost his team Ws more than a few times trying to press shyt; and ultimately for as prolific a passer as he was, far too many times it was big numbers and 7-9, 8-8 seasons, there was a ceiling to exactly how high he could take you without more elite skill around him, and that last point is a stark contrast to Rodgers, who has made more happen when he had less...
So Brees certainly isn't without criticism but you can't name 10 QBs in the history of the sport who did it better...
Ben was a better talent than Drew. Just cause you don't like Ben Rosthlisberger the man doesn't make him a shyt quarterback. Drew benefited from a system and the rules. He wouldn't have lasted as long as he did had he played in a different era.
This is not a crazy analysis. Trust me dog, I've told cats a few times on here that they undervalue Roethlisberger and the carry job he gave Pittsburgh most of the last decade. He's underrated too, and like others I agree his white privilege got him favor with all those rapes, sexual conducts, other incidents like the bike crash, that black players woulda got the book thrown at them for....but strictly speaking on his value and performance as a player, Ben is clearly an All-Timer (on the lower end but an All-Timer regardless)...
Without that Super Bowl win that Sean Payton won on that onside kick, his legacy is only slightly better than Matt Ryan tbh
So we're gonna find out very soon, just like the Belichick/Brady thing, who was more valuable in the Brees/Payton relationship. I know one thing, not just any run of the mill quarterback could've played under Payton the last 15 years and done the things Brees did, he deserves his just due...
