We all know that wasn't the initial offer. That was them trying to save face and Wade told them his price and Riley wouldnt matcha 2 yr/$40 million deal is disrespect?
Riley called Wade's bluff for 2 straight summers and lost both times. Only reason a deal got done last year was because Arison came thru and smoothed it over. Maybe Riley will finally realize that he can't treat his franchise players like college kids in 1975.
wade has be been holed up in europe with lebron and his wife the past couple weeks, and probably talks to his agent everyday. those aren't people who were steering him to re-sign with miami. his agent wants the biggest deal possible for obvious reasons, lebron wants wade to bounce to screw over riley and gabby has her man's back no matter what. a long distance phone call from riley wouldve solved nothingWe all know that wasn't the initial offer. Y'all really don't understand the disrespect involved there? And Riley wasn't even talking to Wade this whole time ? shyt is disgusting
Wade gave that franchise everything
im willing to shyt on Riley for his tenure and luck in having Wade, but this point is silly. Wade was not a sure thing at all in 2003 and could have dropped lower. If the ping pong balls bounce slightly differently in 03, "The Don" is looking super funny in the light.

I give Riley credit for drafting Wade because it was not a slam dunk at all.
Bosh is also a HOF player tho? That was actually my point. He was gonna take Bosh. So it's not that he saw the diamond in the rough and took a chance on him. He fell to him. Heat get the 4th pick and the last 13 years look a lot different.

Bosh is also a HOF player tho?
IDK, i agree with your overall point but that was just as petty as Riley's treatment of Wade.
we dont know. Im just talking about how their careers have born out.Is he as good as Wade? Was he gonna take over and lead them to a chip in 06? Was he tight enough with Bron to convince him to come down? We can't act like shyt would be the same if they get Bosh instead of Wade.
we dont know. Im just talking about how their careers have born out.
Wade coulda been the one in anonymity in Toronto or his career coulda gone Rudy Gay route.
Im not gonna dismiss the Wade pick by saying, "he was lucky the ping pong balls went a certain way." Thats all.
End of the day, Wade was the most important person in Heat history, not Pat Riley. We can both agree with that.
We know Wade was a better, more impactful player than Bosh and no matter where either of them might have played this is true.I didnt dismiss Wade's greatness. I am saying we have no idea of anything. But you can dismiss Wade's greatness by suggesting that it was contingent on circumstance? We know Wade was a better, more impactful player than Bosh and no matter where either of them might have played this is true.
If you dont see how getting the most important person in franchise history when you actually preferred an inferior player over him is luck, I dont know what to tell you.
I didnt dismiss Wade's greatness. I am saying we have no idea of anything.
Of course Wade is better than Bosh. I didnt say otherwise.
All I am saying is the Heat coulda passed on Wade and picked TJ Ford or Mike Sweetney, and it would not have been a crazy decision in 2003. I give Riley credit for making the pick because it was not a slam dunk. Thats all.
. He was still lucky that he didn't have to pick between Wade and Bosh and that he wasn't left with those guys that you mentioned. He picked in the perfect spot. He picks any higher or lower and there is likely no Wade. I generally don't give GMs credit for drafting highly touted players in the lottery.
