I really enjoyed Dragon Ball because it was more skill based when it came to battle. It didn't come down to a nikka screaming for an episode and getting stronger. They had to find certain ways to get stronger without having those BS transformations. Goku got bodied by Tao, climbed Karin's tower, chased Karin for hrs, and improved his abilities. I liked that. Goku got bodied by Piccolo Daimao and had to use the Super God Water to stand a chance. The water would've either killed Goku or released his dormant power. Luckily Goku had incredible dormant power, so it just made him way stronger.

When it comes to upping the ante on power and story? DBZ took it to a whole new level. Transformations, planet destroying attacks, etc. I enjoy both for what they are.

In fairness Dragonball is very funny from a humor standpoint, but it's tough to put it over the Z series when that was childhood (or even 2nd childhood) defining.

I mean goku basically saves the day in the original as well but at least other characters matter and have importance where u can actually count on someone.

Piccolo killed Raditz.
The Z Fighters main purpose was to hold off the Saiyans until Goku arrived with Kaioken training. They did that.
It took Goku, Krillin, Gohan and Yaijorbe to beat Vegeta.
Goku was irrelevant on Namek and the entire arc was about character development and the story. Best story of the run to be honest.
Everyone else put in work on Namek too.
Goku beat Frieza and was basically a noshow until the Cell games.
He lost to 20, Vegeta killed 20.
Piccolo beat 19.
Piccolo beat Cell.
Piccolo forced a push with 17.
Tien hemmed Cell up.
Vegeta beat Cell.
Trunks incentivized Cell for the Games and to fight the Saiyans again.
Goku lost to Cell.
Gohan beat Cell
Goku was dead 7yrs and basically did nothing of note in the story other than teach the kids fusion and then executed Vegeta's plan to save the planet after he and Buu held off kid buu long enough for Goku.

Other characters mattered breh. Just seems like you only fukked with Goku to not notice. Obviously he will get plot protection, its his story.

Blame goku always being the hero on the Japanese fans, they complained and sent threats after the cell saga they did not want goku being weaker than his son this is why no main villain will ever be defeated by anyone but goku . . .

it's gets soooo boring knowing you'll always have 1 hero . . had vegeta off himself against boo for nothing ruining a perfect ending I remember when vegeta asked what will happen when he dies piccolo basically told him bruh you ain't getting goku treatment shyt you ain't even getting normal human treatment vegeta was on his G shyt and said "so be it" .. ..what a waste

Original DB was charming and more of an adventure. Fights were also more grounded; dependant on skills and techniques as opposed to power levels being the end all be all.
The Vegeta/Freiza saga was the last great one because it retained much of the above.

Still a fan of both but completely understand why anyone would prefer the original.

Dragonball was cool and lighthearted but it was for us when we were like what 5 and 6. shyt hit the fan in Z and kept getting more wild as it went along. Goku and Piccolo found out they didn't come from earth, Gohan growing from a whinny brat to a badass, Every villain more intense than the last.
