Stop playing semantics games with me. Empowering is to give power to a typically once powerless person or entity. I can empower Middle Eastern women. That does not mean I am simultaneously disempowering their men. Empowerment is NOT zero sum!

You need to go back and re-read the thread. I was not the person who used the word empowerment first. My post was a reply to someone who used the word. Furthermore, I was using the word to make the same argument you just made, so you need to take up your issues with him or just fukk off, really because you're barking up the wrong tree.:manny:

black men don't need black women

but black women need black men
Issues that only effect black men or only effect black woman don't exist. There may be issues that effect black women more than black men or vice versa but since we're connected any issue that effects one sex automatically effects the other as well.

The mistake Black feminists can make is somehow trying to separate themselves from Black men and seeking their own agenda.
Black feminists are not separating they are bringing attention to something gets little attention. Of these were addressed in the black community with equal attention there wouldn't be a need for feminism

Black feminists are not separating
I disagree...there are black female issues like there are black male issues.
Blatant contradiction. Black feminists talk out of both sides of their ass with no shame. "We need our own movement because our issues are separate......but we're not trying to separate".

Can the sistas explain to me what Black feminists are looking to gain exactly? :hmmjb:

For men to treat us as people and value our opinions as equals. Look around the Coli and you'll see the exact opposite of what I'm talking about. It comes off as petty and immature. One dude gave me negative rep today saying women should have never gained the ability to vote. Such infantile garbage has no place in modern society.

This also benefits men, because not all men are hyper masculine and don't need to be. As women take a higher role and equal place in society, this eases the burden on men, creating a more egalitarian society.

if someone speaks sense to me and if i'm wise enough to understand it then i'll :salute: i don't care if it's black feminism, economics, hip hop, whatever.

my issue is people who just decide to become a label and then whatever the textbook tells them that label is, that's the opinion they'll adopt. it's like people buy their opinion off the rack already made. that's a cheap opinion to have. Have an opinion, don't let your opinion have you.

To me feminism is a more egalitarian society. Women should be able to hold careers and high profile jobs despite being women. Women should also be allowed to stay at home and be housewives if they want. By the same token, men should be able to work careers and earn the bread for the house, but I think they too reserve the right to stay at home and help with the house and family. I find this should be beneficial to both parties. Women should be taken seriously. We are half the population. I do not espouse that women are superior - because we are not. We are all people, and everyone should be treated as such, including women.

Throughout this site, we see a lot of opinions "males do this" females do this" and it's very dividing. Rather than finding common ground and bridging barriers to help each other out, it creates a surge of fighting, as if men are scared of taking women seriously and put us at the same table as you guys, as if you KNOW men have done women wrong. And that's wrong, so I try to fight and speak up as much as I can have my voice heard. If that labels me as being a bytch or a "c*nt" so be it. I have a lot to fight for and much to gain.

One love.

^^^Notice how she didn't say ask people at priority #1. They're not trying to be divisive though.
The divide exist already... Black men for themselves and black women for themselves. I don't know why you are blaming feminism for that. Black feminism is highlighting what already exist.
