I loved this game as a kid. Real shame they never got Squaresoft onboard for a proper sequel. Thousand Year Door was cool, but none of the other Mario RPG’s ever lived up to the GOATness of the original.

Not gonna lie. It DID feel like back then Sega was the “blacker” system.

Probably because it was marketed as more hip and Sonic had attitude and swag. Plus the plethora of sports and fighting games
