Let's dismiss this narrative that Get Rich or Die Tryin didn't age well.

But it's just revisionist bullshyt. I vividly remember what the album meant when it dropped and revisionist shyt in this thread means nothing

thats not what this thread is about.

and its not revisionist history. nobody is in here denying its impact. its about the quality of the album.

impact & quality are not the same. sometimes they coincide with each other, sometimes they don't.

same thing with sales, cuz thats prolly your next argument. and we can keep it in 50's backyard of queens. theres a reason why this album prolly went diamond but still is nowhere near being held in the same regard as illmatic & infamous, 2 albums you hate because they prolly just peaked at gold.

brilliant party song and if you were clubbing in those days you'd see it first-hand. the starting with "it's your birthday". smart as hell because it was always someone's birthday in the club.

The beat is fantastic. Deceptively simple. One of the few beats that's nonthreatening to people who have little-to-no rhythm but also has pockets of grooves for those who love to dance.

lol @ "if you were clubbing in those days". I'm not even gonna say whats running thru my mind right now.

so basically, what you mean to say is that it was a brilliant business move. thats not what this thread is about tho.

just respond to the 2nd comment breh.

in response to your 'business move' comment, it's just an incredible beat. Arguably one of the best beats Dre ever made. I wouldn't look too deep into the business side of shyt because I simply don't know. But I'm not surprised the song went nuclear. It's that good.

now what were you saying that was running through your mind? Let's see if you'll return the courtesy

i'll leave that alone.

snide remarks? Did you take offense to "if you were clubbing in those days?"

I wasn't trying to diss at you all, breh. No sneak diss or whatever. I was trying to conjure up the memory in your mind. You may or may not have been clubbing those days. I know you know your stuff but last I remember you're 30. "In Da Club" may have been before you were going out like that, or maybe you were already going out :yeshrug: Either way, when In Da Club came out, it hit. HARD.

This isn't "Right Thurr" or some shyt that was obvious pop and while popular, would be forgotten. In Da Club was much bigger.

I'm not just talking sales though. I'm saying people were legit loving the album, calling it classic and saying 50 was the new tupac (which i didnt agree with)
And actually I love the Infamous.

I'm not saying people didn't legit love the album and I'm not saying that people weren't calling it classic.

I'm saying there were way to many people that weren't f*ckin with it at all. too much negative feedback for that album to be considered a consensus classic.

and as I predicted 13 years ago, it seems like half of the people that loved the album back then, don't think so highly of it now. again, another sign of it not being a true classic.

I don't bat an eye when I see someone calling it a classic, cuz I understand what that album meant to a lot of people. but i'll never view it as anything more than an album with classic impact, in the same vein as puff daddy.

my bad. I apologize for taking that out of context.

that's usually how snide remarks are made on here on the slick, plus I was arguing with an a$$hole in another thread at the same time. that's still no excuse tho. I apologize from the bottom of my heart homie.

but yea, it didn't add up, cuz I never get into it with you like that. hence, the reason why I threw my bag of insults away in the bushes.:manny:

anyway, yea I'm 31. I wasn't in the clubs when it dropped but yea this was getting crazy play at parties, and it was still wack as f*ck to me. most radio-friendly music was awful by that point. the era of the most generic/formulaic singles ever. I didn't like the beat either but I always figured it was just me.

And this is absolute nonsense, everyone fukked with it from the hood to the burbs, streets to the radio.
It's like nikkas make up shyt based off how much they PERSONALLY like/dislike an album and try to paint faux pictures based off that. nikka please

Idk but to me it's a classic, was played everywhere and has songs I still bump in the weightroom to this day. I see this thread has already turned into a troll battle royale though so ima let y'all have at it.

lol @ this dude trying to tell me what I didn't see & hear on a regular everyday basis.

and who said I didn't like GRODT? I just said it wasn't a classic. it was still imo, one of the top 5-10 LPs for that year.

theres no artist in the history of music that can lay claim to the bolded. theres no such thing as an artist that every single person liked. lol. youre too much into trend-hoppin. now I know why bul called you vanilla ice that day.

you gotta remember that was the most lyrical era for reckless rap. and here comes 50 cent making all the money with his baby bars. common sense should tell you that there were lots of people that didn't like him, whether the hate was warranted or not. lol. I remember a lot of people that f*cked with Lloyd banks heavy but hated the rest of g-unit. same with the other squads. there were people that didn't like diplomats but still kept tabs on one or two of the members more than the actual dipset fans did.
