THIS IS THE MAIN REASON
THE HEAT BECAME A GOOD TEAM.

HE EMPOWERED HIS TEAMMATES
ALL SEASON TO DO THEIR THING
SO OVER THE COURSE OF THE YR
THEY ALL GOT COMFORTABLE IN THOSE ROLES.

IF HE CAME IN BEING YOUR TYPICAL BALL DOMINANT STAR
MIA WOULD HAVE NEVER DEVELOPED

INTO THIS.

That’s my thing tho... when one of the supporting guys have it going and he’s deferring, it’s not an issue because he’s feeding the hot hand. The issue is, too many times this season, the Heat have had lulls on offense like tonight because naturally role players are going to be inconsistent; and he hasn’t taken it upon himself to say fukk this, let me get buckets to hold us down until these guys start hitting shots again. Tonight was a perfect example; no one has it going and he has 11 shots. That’s inexcusable for a max guy and leader of your squad. If not him, then who? The fact that our 2nd best player isn’t dominant offensive player exacerbates that issue but you can’t blame Bam because him and the rest of the supporting cast are playing way better than anyone thought they were capable of.

You mean he’s not your typical max #1 guy averaging 28PPG leading his team to the finals. His numbers offensively are lower than What you’d usually expect from someone in his position but his impact on the floor can’t be denied and he always paces/finds the right times to get to the line.

I think considering the level of praise he gets... his criticism, or lack thereof, is apropos...nobody is saying he’s the best player in the game...the fact that he's not that guy offensively is already cooked into how he's perceived...

I can understand that. But at the same time, he’s a max player. It’s always wild when my boys and I are in the group chat talking about Jimmy having no faith in his J and overpassing and the national narrative is “such an unselfish leader to be okay with not getting up a lot of shots” like it’s not his own fault and sometimes, and occasionally to the detriment of the team.

I forgot this is the The Coli where everything works in absolutes and if you make a thread about someone you’re automatically calling them the GOAT or shytting on them. So let’s just answer this....

Is there another max player/team leader in the league that could be the 4th leading scorer on his own team in the conference finals and still be immune to any criticism?

Hell
He's too passive but he looks a little bigger than he did when he played for the Bulls, maybe he lost a little quickness and I know he's 30-31 now at least.

I mean he got a max deal but can put up 18 a game and chill, when you watch the game he's not a #1 offensively he relies on his teammates... I'm sure he likes the Heat since he has a little less load on the offensive end.

I think Offensively he's definitely behind Tatum for certain, he may be behind Herro offensively... maybe.. Herro is too skinny and will take a beating putting up that 37 against the Lakers or a big physical team for certain.

OP got a good point though, Heat is team ball and that's commendable.. not what we're used to seeing for so many years from the Harden and Bron types...but when you need point you can't rely on cuts and screens, you may need to post up, fade away or ISO to the lane. I know Jimmy is like 230 pounds but he looks smaller than Leonard and other SF's in the league and not as tall as George or some other dudes...

Jimmy is still the man but I wish he would have been more assertive but I hope the Heat close it out Sunday and get it over with...

There's something here...

He's shooting .435/.222 while averaging 18.4ppg this series, thats 2.5 ppg below his postseason average while taking 0.8 more shots per game to his playoff average. Just for reference...

The answer is no, no player of his caliber, a guy who's a 3x All-NBA guy, would be able to skate criticism like this. I think the saving grace is that he's already shown to be greater than what the consensus opinion was of him a year ago---->team cancer, glorified role player, can't be the best guy on a championship team...

He's already blown thru those opinions, so now he's in the honeymoon stage where the expectations haven't been fully raised for him yet. He still could be a glorified, high level role player but this playoff run is showing you can win with Jimmy if the right pieces, management, and philosophy is around him...

I still expect Miami to win Boston. He ain’t gonna be able to get away with scoreless 4thQ's in The Finals though, nor will he be able to get away with not being able to put points on the board on the rare night the rest of his talented scoring teammates can't hit, so the bar of expectation will rise soon enough. Good thing for him is he's shown an ability to step up

This is actually great insight and I’ve never thought about that before but I agree. He was essentially labeled a locker room cancer that I feel like he’s playing with house money because the narrative created was SO off that I think it would be overly bit picky to be like alright we were wrong about him he’s clearly good enough to be a #2 on a championship squad, butttttt...” because it would sound like they’re just trying to save face.

A lot of it may not be his fault. He is what he is. But that’s kind of the point of my threat. He might just be a #2 playing as a #1 because of roster construction but is the reason he doesn’t get criticized for playing up to the same level as the other #1 max players because everyone knows he’s in a role he shouldn’t be in or are he and the team so likable and exceeding expectations that no one really cares to criticize him because they’ve already exceeded expectations?

I don’t really post like that anymore so I almost forgot how annoying you are to try to have a conversation with. Again, they turned over half the damn roster and the other half is playing WAY above expectations. If the Lakers didn’t win this year would you also say “y’all didn’t even make the playoffs last year, just be happy with the result”? Obviously not because the roster is much different.

I’m actually confused by what you’re even trying to insinuate because I thought I made myself pretty clear in my original post. You seem to be the only person unsure of what I’m asking, despite me plainly laying out two questions for us to discuss in the thread.
