Also it should be noted this was during a time where the country as a whole wanted those in office to be "tough on crime" which was largely something the republicans were known for, however during late 80s'/early 90's the democrats were able to prove they to were "tough on crime" and Biden seemed to be the lead dog in that fight. Also it should be mentioned the president in office at the time was one Bill Clinton, who also signed the bill. The man the black community called the first black president before we actually got one. He also was not against this bill.

Excellent point.

Again you are focused on this only being about the upcoming election where it appears you could careless who wins because you are unable to differentiate one candidate from the other when its clear as day they are not one in the same.

I can differentiate just fine, and all of those points still stand before you start addressing methodology. And I am anything but focused on this only being about the upcoming election.

Also you should realize you are in the minority here, checking for down ballot candidates isn't going to do us much good right now. Unfortunately for them they only become in focus when people want to stand on a soapbox and not choose between candidates that actually have a chance at winning. I don't see now being the time to waste a vote.

I'm the minority here? You mean...the vast majority will be voting for Biden?

:ohhh:

Engaging more fervently in local politics isn't going to do us much good.

:jbhmm:

A vote is wasted if it isn't cast for who you want it to be?

:dwillhuh:

But after this election I hope I, myself, along with other do more work to get better candidates in position to be elected for local, state and national positions. You seem to have me pegged as someone I am not primarily based off a thread meant to discuss the '94 crime bill.

What if you have to hold off on all that for another stab me/shoot me scenario? You think the clean cut, reasonable, low key racist republican is coming back? :mjlol:

@SunZoo

You are in the minority because the general population will be voting for Donald or Biden, and thankfully you are in the minority when it comes to differentiating the 2 candidates. And yes your vote is wasted if you aren't casting it for 1 of the 2 candidates that have a chance at winning. There is no scenario where both Biden and Donald both lose. One of them has to win, and I know who I want to lose, so I will be casting my vote accordingly. And I clearly stated we all, including myself need to get more involved in local and state elections. But again all this is getting away from the true purpose of this thread.

Trump is rolling out unidentifiable federal agents who snatch people up in unmarked vans, in Black dominant cities as we speak. Joe Biden wrote a bill that garnered alot of support from black leaders of the time.

Nevermind that though, what would be your solution then and now to crime in black communities?

Oh snap...is that Blackwater back to 'securing neighborhoods' again.

:whew:

As for the solution, on the fly it's not more police. Nor is it Dr. Fubar suggesting we run up in the hood ourselves and put people to sleep. Whether you gotta divest funds from the police or some other means, money needs to be spent to combat poverty. On the other end of things, as counter intuitive as it may sound is make effort to organize crime. If you can't out-police the criminal element or pied piper them out the hood to somewhere else, it makes sense to try and make them a resource.

fukked up part about it is, Chicago could become the new black wallstreet and cacs still wouldn't leave it be..

Crime bill was indeed something that a lot of people were in favor of back then and it went horribly wrong.. Both those things can be true. There was a real purpose behind it and many leaders were for it and then it ended up destroying a lot of families.

anyway fukk Trump and the GOP and their dikk riders in this thread :manny:

First off I want to say the majority of people that are quick to denounce this bill, and put it all on Biden either weren't born in '94 or to young to even know what was going on around them. The climate in 1994 was much different from the climate of today. So in part, I don't think its fair to judge this bill in hindsight based on todays climate.

The black community was not against this bill, in fact they were largely in favor of it. The gang violence was out of control in plenty of cities. The crack/cocaine epidemic was seemingly out of control as well. See we as black people vilified addictions when we should have treated it more like the opoid "crisis" and sought avenues to get these people help. Instead we wanted them off our streets asap by any means necessary. The church played its part in supporting this bill as well, most of the mega pastors clamored for it, so we as a community deserve some blame for this bill as well.

There were good parts of the bill. The Violence Against Womens Act, there was a provision for background checks on guns. Also it should be noted when it came to prison sentences the bill only affected sentencing on the Federal level only. It did provide funding to states to build more prisons, and hire more police but non federal crime sentencing was still handled at a state level. It did provide funding for states to adopt "Truth in Sentencing" that resulted in longer prison sentencing at the state level but this was only carried out by a few states. There was also funding for treatment for people suffering from drug addiction.

Now for balance Biden was also part of some bad bills that were written like the Comprehensive Control Act, and the Anti Drug Abuse Acts.

Also it should be noted this was during a time where the country as a whole wanted those in office to be "tough on crime" which was largely something the republicans were known for, however during late 80s'/early 90's the democrats were able to prove they to were "tough on crime" and Biden seemed to be the lead dog in that fight. The man the black community called the first black president before we actually got one. He also was not against this bill.

In the end, was the bill perfect, no. Does Biden deserve some strife for his self proclaimed, "tough on crime" history. Yes, he definitely does, however is a bill he signed over 25 years ago, that was pretty much unanimously supported is a reason not to vote against him in preference of Donald, I don't think so.
You forgot to add tour disclaimer at the end of your post: This posted advertisement was paid for by a Biden c00n:ufdup:

crime has dropped in cities because of gentrfication, poverty has moved to the suburbs and crime has increased there, has nothing to do with the police. Also the crack era is over so crime dropped because nobody is warring over million dollar blocks anymore. I swear you immigrants are going to be the death of black people.

:hhh:

:what:

crime is down everywhere across the board

nikkas more mad about a 25 year old crime bill vs. how Trump and the Republicans IN PRESENT TIMES wrecklessly increased the defense budget, gave the rich an obscene tax break, completely fumbled the federal response to Covid and got untold people killed, nearly started WW3 because he didnt want his own Benghazi, has actively withheld aid from states hes got beef with, doubled down on support for pretty much every authoritarian organization, backed every single AWFUL local politician who sucks him off (and THANK GOD a lot of them have lost elections)....

I mean are we really going to keep acting disingenuous about who the more imminent threat is?

Ive said it once and said it again, motherfukkers can talk all that "But theyre the same :troll:" bullshyt. In my lifetime of 33 years, nearly every single Republican Presidents tenure have damn near been apocalyptic and thats with Republican Presidents who werent explicitly egotistical retards.
