Salvador Dali and George Condo are the real deal. The rest are hacks. Honorable mention to Jacob Lawrence.

what is this great and prolific art you love and why? im just asking a simple question. what you're saying right now can be applied to anything or anyone. i dont want to watch a doc, i know about basquiat. i just want to know why you think his work is genius.

naw, i can tell the angle you comin' from and it's just to bicker back and forth because this is what trolls do :mjpls:

i already told you why he and his work are genius, did you not read my post above? :dame:

tell me what you know about basquiat since the doc is of no interest to you? :jbhmm:

Of course they were hustlers... part of that do some bullshyt and call it art.
I live in the burgh and they gave warhol a fukking museum :laff: :camby:
Don't really follow pollock... don't care for artists who just throw a bunch of paint everywhere :manny:

I'll give basquiat a pass tho :mjpls:
Also I wouldn't include picasso in that group.

One old artist to check out is J. C. Leyendecker.

Thou Art History: SAMO quotes by Jean Michel Basquiat

Basquiat was cool, but some of the bootlicking comments on that site are ridiculous.

"Read those over and over and over again. Not only to understand them better but to deepen my knowledge of what is truly being said. Those quotes itself are an invitation to get to know this artist much more thoroughly for I did not know who Jean Michel Basquiat was. The familiarity and judgment on "graffiti" is so shallow and unknown by the majority that this field of art becomes even more interesting than others that are well known. The unknown is something always worth exploring. Additionally, graffiti is something so modern and relevant to our society that adding philosophical meanings to something that seems so simple to others makes it that much more exciting to learn about."

Your answer was "he's creative and great" that's not an art discussion.:francis:

I know basquiat, why he draws the way he does, how he got into it, his inspirations etc...

But I'm just asking you a simple question and you coming off hostile like you got an act to keep together. Don't direct me to someone else just give me your words.

Hope you not one of them dudes who could give a fukk about art but like something cuz people say it's cool. :francis:

i never knew we were havin' a full blown discussion. i thought i made it pretty clear why he and his work was genius yet i see you wanna try to pull my hoe card and try to come at me some type of way. fukk outta here :dame:

basquiat's work was genius because it was black culture, abstract, his art work spoke on racism, the poetry within it, the historical references, poverty and then some

for the record, i ain't got no "act" to keep together, this a message board, bruh :mjlol:

i don't get no "cool points" for tryin' to pose as some nikka i ain't on a gotdamn message board :pachaha:

just admit, you don't like his work and you don't find it great and leave it at that :comeon:

ain't no need in tryin' to troll me with some bullshyt troll angle. i ain't gon entertain it :camby:

and you mention discussion and then only said "i know basquiat, why he draws the way he does, how he got into it, his inspirations etc..." but don't follow it up with shyt :dame:

but whatever, it's all good. goin' back and forth like this gets old to me quick:ld:

I really want to neg the fukk outta OP for saying Picasso was a talentless hack.

Picasso was drawing Realism paintings already at a young age.

He was literally a child prodigy in art.

Goya and Caravaggio are two of my favorite of the top of my head. I really like Caravaggio's style and this painting by Goya
saturn_1000.jpg

might just be my favorite painting period.
That painting haunted me when I first saw it(well a picture) as a teenager and still affects me as an old man.

Same

reason wack rappers go platinum, they're plugged into the machine

Exactly.

The art community has its way of doing things and all you need a a tight crew of people with money who pick 10 artists that they hype up for years and support. It turn that creates an artificial sense of exclusivity that the average person takes note of and tries to get on board with.

Look at MoMA here in NY. That shyt was started by a couple of rich wives (one was the wife of a Rockefeller) in the 30s and they got a bunch of art that they fukked with and used their influence (and $) to hype the fukk out of it. Since they already had tons of cash they were able to buy pricey pieces but ALSO (and more importantly) had their buddies loan/give pieces from their private collections to the museum.

And while there are a lot of great pieces in there, some of the shyt I see in there has me :stopitslime: because it's like a bunch of kids threw paint on a canvas and kept it moving.
