songs like it's your world, the corner, chi city, they say and the be intro are my favorites. everythin' else was decent but nothin' was really all that imo

common's albums post like water for chocolate have all been rather bland and tame. like he be spittin' but the rhymes just some times come off rather eh, in comparison to his resurrection, one day it'll all make sense, and life water for chocolate eras

it's not that albums like nobody's smiling, finding forever, and be are horrible, they just lack that same pizzazz that his earlier works like resurrection, one day it'll all make sense and like water for chocolate have

I mentioned One Day, a couple other cats did too.

That, in my opinion, was just as good, if not better than Be. It's really close to me.

But I'm rollin' with Resurrection all day. Com' and No ID had something special with that one there.

one day it'll all make sense for my money is common's best album, followed by like water for chocolate and then resurrection

but one day it'll all make sense has everythin'; songs (not just like freestyle songs), battle rap, great production, humor, etc

however, one could pick any of his albums from resurrection to one day it'll all make sense or like water for chocolate and be right in my book

I've always felt that One Day is Common's best album, I can't believe it wasn't mentioned in this thread.

Be may not be his GOAT record (though this thread seems to disagree) but it may be his most important... because after Universal Mind Control it was widely assumed Common's career was finished. Be was beautifully produced, well crafted, didn't waste space or tracks, and probably extended his relevancy for a decade.

His choices of producers... goddamn. It was maybe the last full-on hiphop album that Kanye produced. Plus Dilla and No ID. :lawd:

Common has never had another track like "Hungry" though...

Still tho.... that "the food" performance

dap and + rep.... i agree :myman:

The intro changed my taste in music. Top 5 album to me.

Told my dad I listened to common n it tripped him out cuz he was heavy on common back in the days.

How can an album be considered classic if most of it is produced by that gay fish kanye. Should of let dilla do all the beats
It was suppose to be half and half. Half Ye Half Dilla but mid way thru recording dilla got sick. Dilla actually did the original intro to the album a more harder version:

he also did this but it was cut from the album:

In my personal opinion I feel LWFC is his best but it's no denying his run from Res to Like Water was masterful. I think with BE that was that last Com was in a zone spittin it was like he felt that backlash of tryna do sumthin different with Electric Circus so he had to show and prove he still was an ill MC which he did on this joint. To me after BE he just went into straight auto-pilot cruise control with the rhymes to the point it felt like he wasn't puttin his all into it. The more popular he got after BE the less sharp he was wit the rhymes and it shows the albums following. People talk bad about EC but it had sum joints on there how can u deny:

Dilla once said in an interview he wanted to go in the direction of Soul Power for EC but Com was like nah.

Really good album. But 92-97 Common >>>

LWFC and Electric Circus suck though. The one he made with the Neptunes was :trash: Straight recycling bin status. His last 2 have been meh.

Common got a lot of dudes for one of the GOATs honestly.
