So I finally downloaded FFVI for my iPad. It was my third time trying to play the game without giving up in the first hour. It got more enjoyable, but unfortunately, I don't get why it is ranked better than 7. Unfortunately, my ipad was stolen yesterday and I couldn't finish the story. I got to the part where the world was destroyed and you got the new airship. I read the rest of the story. Not that impressed.

I hear people constantly talk about how VII is overrated but I have yet to play one that's better. I consider Chrono Trigger to be on par with 7 and better than 6. Not to mention, I played CT after I played VII. From the music, to the atmosphere, I find the tone of VII to be more captivating than 6. Kefka was that dude but more often than not VI feels like a mess at times.

I think VII alone (barely considering Crisis Core) had much more depth with Zack and even the backstories of Vincent, Cid and the secondary characters. I also think the characters were more likable.

So someone break it down on why so many people consider VI the best.

Played & enjoyed both, but FF VII is the better one IMO. Maybe it's nostalgia but i think VII had the better characters, story, soundtrack & setting. I don't want to go in depth but there's so many memorable moments in VII.

VI is good as well and i've replayed it several times but it's not touching VII. It also seems that it's popular now to bash FF VII because it is considered to be not only the best FF but one of best RPG of all time by many ppl.

FF7 gets a lot of praise when it came out because it was a lot of people's first JRPG, it had cinematics and it was a breakthrough for the PS1. It was the first AAA RPG that got a HUGE marketing push.

Game wise though it was limited. Loading screens, memory card needed, Less characters, the characters skills weren't as varied as FFVI, the story wasn't as grand, party of only three characters. Aside from graphics the gameplay seemed like a step back. The materia system was cool but in the last game anyone could learn anything, no limits on skills.

FFVI was the pinnacle where they literally let you do everything they could (like GTA SA). Story was worth three novels, Huge cast of characters with unique skills, swap characters in and out at will, had two parties running the end of the game, the story actually had an ending with everyone, everyone knew you lost Aeris, but not everyone knew you could save Shadow. Plus the cast of characters was 10x better: Sabin (dude could suplex a train and a T-Rex), Gogo (took anyone's skills), Locke was cool, Shadow was an actual ninja with a dog, Cyan could chain hit, Umaga was the abominable snow man, Mog, Setzter was a pimp with an airship. Cid could die, the world ended, Shadow could die, The Tower was dope, that octopus was cool, Kefka was the coldest villain, straight murdering the world, laughed and became a god. As time goes on you see more and more articles written about FF6 because of how it was and how it lasted.

No one reminisces about that weak ass effeminate cast of characters that was FFVII. Remember that time Cloud wore a dress? Remember when Cloud couldn't choose between big tittied Tifa and girl next door Aeris :stopitslime:. His fukking name was Cloud. There wasn't really an ending, shyt just moves forward 500 years.

I'll give you the combat/ gameplay but:camby: with the character defense. More characters don't make it better. Shiit, Edgar and Sabin didn't even acknowledge each other after the world was destroyed and I was putting the part back together. I didn't find ff vi characters remotely interesting beyond Edgar and Sabin. Terra was more emo than cloud. When I was forced to use Celeste like she's a main character, it threw me off. The story never felt cohesive. Kefka was just insane. Gully and entertaining yes, but no depth whatsoever.

Vii had so many moments that I didn't get with vi. You can't tell me you weren't amazed by the world map after the motorcycle race. You could kill or save the Turks, who themselves had more personality than kefka. The soundtrack just brings it all together.
