shyt has nothing to do with dilla, and all to do with tip being an ego maniac. dilla beats>>>> phife ass didnt wanna be there cuz tip is a lame and he was sick... nikkas act like dilla made common and tribe spit them flows and content... its not dilla fault common thought he was the long lost member of SV on like water for chocolate.

Naw bruh... Dilla brought some mundane shyt into the mix with that BRL album, and it continued with the Love Movement. I mean, they rapped on it so it ain't all his fault, but yeah... their most boring and bland music definitely came out post-Dilla. Not that he didn't do some winners too- I actually think "1nce Again" shoulda been much more of a hit than it was. But when I heard them albums... :scusthov: Somethin' wasn't right... and Tip had just come off producing some of his best stuff like the joints he did on the Mobb album, so I can't say it was all on him.

As for Common... he's definitely done better work with both Kanye AND No I.D. than he did with Dilla.

Dilla had beats, but let's not act like homie's Tribe shyt was A-game work.

as if the rappin nikkas dont pick the beats they want... tip was a megalomaniac, so the sound of those albums are how HE wanted them to sound. as far as common, i dont like anything he's done post LWFC, those beats on that album >>

regadless De La>>> tribe

I said "they rapped on it, so it ain't all his fault"... but it ain't like he didn't do the beats. shyt was boring.

And I'll even say maybe they jut picked the weak beats out of his stash, cause he did the "Stakes Is High" single for De La, and that beat was better than ANYthing he did on the BRL album. As was Pharcyde's "Runnin". But all in all, Dilla's name is in the credits for BRL just like Tip's name is... so he takes the blame on that. And Love Movement... my God, was that a :snooze: As lacking as BRL is, Love Movement is probably the pinnacle of Dilla's most boring and bland work.

We can say it's because of sample laws, but let's be clear. People were still using samples REGULARLY in '96...and on top of that, the sampling had kinda become even more rampant and obvious than it had ever been. So that's not even a real excuse. The beats Dilla did for their shyt were weak, and they took 'em, AND Tip had Consequence all over the album with his half-ass verses. All these things together knocked ATCQ off the pedestal.

I know people love J Dilla, but he's got some weak shyt in his catalogue like anybody else. Those most notably being his work with ATCQ and Common.

Far as the De La/Tribe comparison... De La is kinda an acquired taste (pause).

IMO, the thing that loses people with De La, whereas they connect more with Tribe, is that you can usually understand on the surface what Tribe's songs are about. It's not that they're simple, but just more within comprehension. I've loved "Breakadawn" for 20 years and I still can't tell you what the fukk most of the lines in the song really mean. Whereas "Electric Relaxation" is much easier to explain and just as great a song.

Also, I think De La started to revel in their complexity a lil' too much (around the Buhloone Mind State album and DEFINITELY Stakes Is High)... Tribe just made music and let the shyt be dope.

^^^^ C'mon fam. Dilla only did 5 joints on BRL. IMO he did the strongest tracks, except for The Jam. Tip did the weakust cuts on the album. Dilla just gets the blame for it. I'll give you the Love Movement. I'm still hurt over that hot garbage.

This is funny. I said the same thing about Dilla's production ruining Tribe's last two albums and ruining other dude's albums some time back and I got flack for it, now years later people are saying the same thing about Dilla's production being too Neo-Soulish and bland.

Hindsight is a mothafukka, isn't it?

Naw, you what leave that shyt in too breh :hmm:

Low Key, De La has more classic albums than almost any rap group ever, I think they have 5.

But Tribe was an incredible group in their heyday and it's a shame group strife led to their early demise but that's also what makes them so great.

The only reason people hate on "Beats, Rhymes and Life" is the fact it followed up 3 amazing Albums. It was a solid LP and Dilla's beats were just fine. As for Tribe, they are easily one of the greatest groups of all time. Q-tip had one of the most unique rap voices and styles. Musically they pretty much influenced and inspired Outkast to be what they became. Sure near the end things got a little messy but you can't hate on their catalog. Legendary group. Can't wait for the documentary to come on DVD, I didn't get to check it on the Big screen.

shytting on Dilla now?

:usure:

C'mon fam. Dilla only did 5 joints on BRL. IMO he did the strongest tracks, except for The Jam. Tip did the weakust cuts on the album.

This x100. Dilla produced:

1nce Again - Should have been bigger than it was
Get A Hold - Really dope vocal flip in the vein that reminds me of Madlib flippin the Everly brothers on the OGC album
Keep It Moving - One of the best tracks on the album
World Play - One of the best tracks on the album. The snare :ohlawd:
Stressed Out - ehh but still a decent track, dope verses

The only non-Dilla productions on that album I still bang on the regular are What Really Goes on and The Jam. That weaksauce for the rest is on Tip, not Dilla. The Love Movement on the other hand :wtb:

I'll second LWFC was better than Resurrection too. Has anyone gone back and listened to that album all the way through lately? Really cohesive album, both in terms of content and production. I don't care if Common was trying to sound like the long-lost member of SV, album was fukking flames and easily better than his later Kanye work IMO. Kanye ain't producing no Common tracks with swing like Heat with all those pitched soul samples:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6P9By-BgFo"]Common - Heat (instrumental) - YouTube[/ame]

someone please direct me to all this weak Common-Dilla work. Dude also produced all the best tracks on Electric Circus as well:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU6FMZ1f3yk"]Common - 10 Between Me, You & Liberation - Electric Circus - YouTube[/ame]
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCNMVBZxcZI"]Common - 08 Star 69 - Electric Circus - YouTube[/ame]
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4pXvhvR2Lc"]Common - I Am Music - YouTube[/ame]

OK then, Dilla Warriors...

let's talk about that boring ass Love Movement album then... 8 joints... one of which is worth a shyt.

And "Like Water For Chocolate" is boring as fukk.

I ain't shyttin' on the dude, but even the greatest producers strike out sometimes. It's OK to admit it. You won't get your "I Heart Dilla" bumper stickers stripped off your car.
