How did we lose? The legislation isn't even made yet, Obama does't make laws, Congress does. The mental health reform is one of the 3/4 main things he proposed.
It is up to Congress to pass a bill. How are you gonna say we lost, when we have not even gotten the bill from them yet?
Since the Republicans are more hesitant to the assault weapon ban, you could expect them to be okay with the legislation if one of the Senators writing it adds alot more to help mental health//illnesses so everyone is happy with the deal.
I know your having doubts breh but you got to wait and see man before you hang it all up. We dont know what they are going to add.

Lol, I know how a bill gets passed, I understand the legislative process . When I say lose, I mean ideologically and mentally as a nation of people. Once that happens we never go back...... Same way we speak about tax reform but no longer feel raped by fed res, same way we allow millions in poverty but don't revolt when we spend trillions in occupations. The way we r lacking in money for education, but millions are spent on lbgt causes.. Our minds,r going to lose as a whole. Which is the same reason we pass anti privacy laws and patriot acts. We r too comfortable to care about rights.

If a family man who is not a criminal who is not crazy wants to own a gun for protection or hunting , he shouldn't be allowed? The dialogue on guns was sparked because mentally damaged people had access to guns. We aren't going to ban knives however, even though you could kill a person w a knife. We aren't banning sex, alcohol, or motor vehicles either. Mass shootings are rare amongst the ways people r killed, and nearly 100% of the time a gun ban wasn't the way to prevent that person snapping. I guess if a person blows up a school we should ban everything household product that is used to make homemade bombs

You're never a criminal until you're convicted of a committing a crime. I've read the majority of firearms deaths are committed with weapons that were originally legally purchased. No it was because there are mass shootings every month. Nothing is going to change in the mental health world until there is nationalized health insurance and all the insurance companies are gutted. Knives are regulated. b.... are illegal. sex is regulated. alcohol is regulated. motor vehicles are regulated.
They're preventable thats why action is being taken.

Off top you're being disingenuous with your argument because most people aren't even talking about banning guns. People are calling for stricter gun laws, not an outright ban on all guns.
Secondly this dialog wasn't sparked by people with mental illness acquiring guns, it was sparked because white folks were suddenly the victims of shootings, hence the "I can't believe this happened HERE" bullshyt people kept spewing.
And Third do you honestly think the proliferation of guns in the United States isn't at least PART of the problem? I'm not saying guns are the only problem but to act as if it's not a problem at all is fukking absurd.
Other nations have MANY people with mental illnesses, they watch the same movies, listen to the same music, and play the same damn video games and many of them don't have even close to the level of gun violence that we do. What sets us apart in that respect is are guns per capita and the comically lax gun laws.
