All assault rifles should be legal but no one with the conditions you mentioned should be able to purchase a gun but lets be real, if a maniac wants to get a gun, hes gonna get one. We dont live in china.

That's my point Meach.

It isn't the abundance of weapons around that's the issue.

If merely just having weapons, and having easy access to weapons was the central reason for these acts, than Switzerland should have a multitude of more gun violence occur. They don't.

Let me ask you this. Is it easier or more achievable to change the culture or to change the laws. Americans aren't going to accept being forced into military training so there is no way for us to emulate Switzerland.

Like I said if a criminal breaks into your house and points a gun at you, you're dead. If you have time to retrieve, load a gun, and stalk the the crimin you had time to do plenty of other stuff to protect your family.

Jesus.

And how would you know this Meach?

Can you be man enough to admit that this is your opinion and fantasy?

But the British DID ban weapons, and people STILL get killed by arms.

That's what you fail to understand.

You have never fired a weapon before in your life, correct?

You have never been in a firefighter, correct?

You have never been trained in how to use a weapon, correct?

So stop assuming.

What's your point. It's not about training it's human reaction time whoever points the gun first wins, it's that simple.

Usually when someone breaks in ur home u would be startled. According to u I should grab my taser and hope I get the drop on the fool.:wtb:

Not me I'm grabbing the biggest ratchet I got.

my gun stays loaded.

You could not be more wrong.

Training is paramount.

Trust me friend, I have been face to face in these situations, and it isn't what you are picturing. And I wasn't going against a person with a handgun, I was going against a fully automatic AK 47.

I've never heard anyone say "I need protection from my government" in real life as justification for owning a gun. Only fringe lunatics say things like that or maybe the idiots on here.

And by the way you bring up some good points. But I know you'll get berated by the gun lobby in here.

And whoever said our founders set up the second amendment so the government would be afraid of their people is wrong. It was set up to arm militias to fight the British.

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government"

-- Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

The guy that actually wrote the Constitution would disagree with your statement.

Of course people are still going to be killed by "arms" but the question is how often does it happen.

This isn't a perfect world where you ban something it just magically disappears to limbo...
