Personally, I'm not a Cole fan because his music just seems aimless to me. Really talented, but there isn't a real end goal that engages me. Kendrick's goal is to express the struggle of his hood and of his generation. Drake's goal is to maintain normalcy in spite of his fame. Cole's goal seems to just be to be a good rapper, and that doesn't resonate with me. I respect his craft, and I thought Born Sinner was a good record, but it's not my cup of tea.

That said, just because he's not in the top 2 of the new school doesn't mean he's irrelevant. He's earned his spot in terms of building a fan base that supports him financially with show tickets and album sales - that's more than most people can say right now. The only people I hear saying Cole is the best out are his die-hard fans; otherwise, everyone lists him as under Drake and Kendrick (or additional people) anyway. But the fact that Cole has fans who are willing to fight for him like that says a lot.

he's top 3 in the new school. hopefully his 3rd album pushes him to the limit. he's way to calm and humble. he's need to start rappin' like he's better than everybody else (He could actually say that and back it up).

I don't think Cole is trying to be the best out fame wise. He is one of the few cats that just seem to be concerned with the music so therefore you won't see him in the tabloids or Mediafakeout type shyt.

I think he is comfortable with his position in the game and I would hate for him to act out of character or to cha nge his style just to try to reel in a few extra fairweather fans

i really, really hate the video & kinda the marketing support behind "Crooked Smile".

That video was supposed to be the new version of TLC's "Unpretty". That video is TERRIBLE!! And of course you gotta have TLC in it whether it's just a sample or whatever. That song was supposed to be huge. He was supposed to be performing that song everywhere...on shows like "Ellen" & "X Factor", award shows, etc.

:damn:
He might still wind up doing all of that

Motherfukkers always put him in their top 3, after Drake and Kendrick he's easily the one who's in most top 3s.
With that said newcomers with better albums: Asap, Drake, Kendrick, Ab-soul & Schoolboy (the two latter were indie though).. But the work he put in on mixtapes still keeps him in my top 3.

A simple reference, just cause KD, CP3 & Lebron are top 3 right now doesn't mean that the guy in your avatar is irrelevant, or does it?

Terrible video? Give me 5 videos you find dope from 2013.. Dude actually made a video with some acting, some money and a social message. A black girl lost type of song is supposed to be a top 3 hit single?

I don't understand why he would be comfortable being 3rd. I'm not asking him to be in the tabloids or fightin paparazzi, he doesn't need to. You said he is only concerned with music so his music should be phenomenal and it just isn't. If you're going to put all of your effort into one area you better be amazing at that shyt.

Also, isn't Kendrick also focusing only on the music? I don't see him in any tabloids or gossip shyt either. He got to where he is now off of raps.

Derrick Rose is top 2 so I don't understand what you're getting at.

EDIT: IRRELEVANT AS IN WHEN YOU ARE DISUCUSSING THE BEST OUT
First off, no this is not Napoleon

I've been a big supporter of this guy but let's face the facts people...he just can't keep up with Drake or Kendrick :yeshrug:

I wanted to see this guy do well but he's an idiot and that's never gonna happen.

Drake and Kendrick are out here dropping better albums, going platinum, and getting GQ covers while this nikka is out here selling his soul making songs like Crooked Smile tryna be Tupac Junior yet still failing to get accolades from it.

Drake is the head of the mainstream side of hip-hop while Kendrick is the head of the "real rap" side and J. Cole is in the middle. Not enough for either side.

Why listen to his love songs when Drake does it better? Why listen to his "lyrical songs" when Kendrick does it better? Why listen to his beats when they're trash? It's hard for me to find a reason to listen to one of my former favorite artists in 2013 when I can find someone doing it better than him :sadcam:

Unless he makes some serious changes musically and starts giving a shyt between now and his next project, he's gonna get wiped out :wow:
:patrice: usually agree with your posts but not this one.... he might have the excitement of a fishless aquarium but j.cole got his own lane man. not somethin i would bump on the regular but he makes decent music and breaths hip hop and respects the artists who paved the way b4 him. even without the push from fakkit as jay-z helping him like he should he still rose to the top despite that. he has been nothin but a positive dude in and out his music without the girly gimmicks both kendrick and drake have employed so personally i cant hate on that man:manny:

Another day another completely out of touch thread on The Booth. Cole is one of the most relevant artists in the game right now, and he's respected on a lyrical level by his peers as well.

Looking forward to seeing Cole in Feb when he's touring with Em and Kendrick :blessed:

so because he's not as popular as Drake and KDot, he's irrelevant? The fukk is wrong with some of y'all logic?

You don't get it man. J Cole was the hottest prospect comin out the draft. Not only that but this nikka got a fukkin JAY-Z co sign. He was supposed to be the one, not Kendrick.

So yea, bein that he's not in that discussion anymore? He's kinda irrelevant b. That's like sayin Carmelo Anthony is relevant. nikka you know he ain't never winnin shyt and that he's just killin time. It ain't never gonna happen for him.
