I think Religion is great. The way people interpret it, is what sucks.
It's a great tool for teaching people how to live but the issue comes along when people do the following....
Begin expressing their faith as fact.
Use religion to justify hatred/war/bloodshed/slavery.
Pick and choose what verses to take literally(this is a biggie)
Not accepting that a good 75% of what's in these texts is archaic and useless in modern times. Nobody will admit this in a direct way. They just ignore what they don't like. See my previous bullet.

Stuff like this is why I lean more towards science is every facet of my life. In another 50 years religions on a major scale will be a thing of the past. You'll still be able to go to your local library and read up on it but kats won't be checking it like that anymore. And I don't mean that as a diss. Folks are just catching on as a whole that it's archaic.

The 'Go
"The popular motif of Isis suckling her son Horus, however, lived on in a Christianized context as the popular image of Mary suckling the infant son Jesus from the fifth century onward"

Isis is Mary, Horus is Jesus :wow:

Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are monotheist and they all worship the God of Abraham. They begin to break off at the new testament and different beliefs as to who Jesus is.
Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are all Abraham faiths
so, someone has to be wrong about jesus right

if these religions are to be taken seriously, then someone has to be right and someone has to be wrong. jesus either has to be or is not the way to salvation

Religion has always been a tool of Colonialism

Wherever Colonialists went, be it Arabs, Romans, Europeans. They brought their Religion with them

You see with Religion... You can beat a man and convince him its for his own good. You can enslave a man because it is the "will of God"

Religion was the "War on Terror" of the past, a facade used as justification for the pillage, enslavement, genocide and ultimately colonization of a particular group of peoples.

Arabs were never involved in colonialism compared to europeans, they were involved in trade with the outside world, but they never set-up shop and pillage the land and people compared to Europeans. There is no non-arabic majority Muslim country that recognizes Arabic as a official language. Compared with all these countries with people of color and practice christianity that has a european language as there official language.

Pretty much. Jews don't believe Jesus was who he says he was at all. Christians believe he was the son of God died for their sins and is the only way to salvation. Muslims see him as a prophet.

Yeah I guess the Arabs in North Africa/Middle East just appeared their and the indigenous peoples magically dissappeared

You think the Natives of North African genocided themselves and gave up their religions, then enslaved themselves by their own accord

1200yrs Arabs enslaved Blacks, thats 3 times that of the Europeans.

I guess the battle of tours was gonna be trade too

So what's the Occum's Razor conclusion in all this?

That's the point of all of these religions... not conflict.

people who are educated know the point of religion.

There is a reason why religion has been a part of humanity before nearly anything else that makes us human. We have advanced from simple primates to advanced beings that are building into outer-space.... with religion as a base to humanity. It definitely hasn't held us back.
