Maybe dude's so far removed that he has no more passion and hunger. He's been lackluster and inconsistent lyrically every since he came back from his fake retirement.

Kingdom Come was a lazy ass mediocre dud.

American Gangster was very dope. Gotta give him credit for that. But still he had to go back to his early drug-rapping days and force a concept album to re-ignite the spark.

Blueprint 3 was :ehh: It had its moments. But it was like a :flabbynsick: ball player who could still occasionally show you flashes of his former greatness. Michael Jordan did still average 22 and 20 on the Wizards. Even though many of the songs were good listening material, the Blueprint 1 era aura of invincibility had dissipated by then and he often sounded like a pathetic old man, insecurely trying to convince you how great he was by reminding you of his glory years, especially on songs like Reminder and Already Home.

WTT was good, but mostly dude to Kanye's production. No real standout verses from Jay.

It's very difficult to maintain relevance and a level of consistent quality material in hip-hop, but that's not even what I'm talking about it. I'm talking about his lyrical ability falling the fukk off. Dude barely even tries anymore. Or maybe he is trying and he just lost it. Or maybe being so far removed from the street life he just ran out of subject matter. All I know is he's been getting away with spitting a lot of lazy bullshyt for a minute now. Like...

"I got a Hublot I call it Tebow, I strap that bytch with a gator band, y'all nikkas play halftime, y'all nikkas like the gator band." :scusthov:

On WTT, he's not even dumbing down for radio play and he's about lyrically on par with Kanye, who is nowhere near an elite emcee.

I was just thinking about this after hearing that half-hearted ass bullshyt verse on 3 Kings, and in light of the gem Nas just dropped. I'm not trying to hold on to the Jay-Z vs. Nas battle. But like it or not, those two will always be linked and compared not just because they had a legendary battle, but because they're from NY, they're all time greats, they came out in the same era and their careers have mirrored each other in many respects; their commercial success, critical acclaim, criticism, ups and downs, and longevity.

But after 10 albums and 20 years, Nas still sound like a hungry, passionate, determined artist in his element and doesn't look like his skill is going anywhere. Jay sounds like a dude that doesn't even want to rap anymore. He's not garbage by any means, but he's deteriorated a lot when you go back and remind yourself of what a monster he used to be, then listen to him now.

I dunno about deteriorating skill , like I can't tell whether he "has it in him" or not

but certainly the actual post-AG output has been underwhelming.. some tracks on Blueprint 3 were dope, the Joy off WTT is dope..

Maybe he needs to stop chasing that Euro Kanye Ghetto Techno sh1t , the BP3 era with the Alicia Keys collab & the book may have been a high note that he can't sustain in terms of crossover respect

I think at this point in time, Jay-Z has surpassed being a rapper and more of a icon of hip-hop.

Least we still got :ahh:

You have a nas album in your avi so shut the fukk up.

cosign,....

then this nikka is always trying to point some bullshyt out.

except for ignoring his own actual stsn based bias.

nikka von doom,...stfu.

plus stop trying to point out shyt that was evident a decade ago.

just so you and the rest of the defeated nas stan.

can attempt to celebrate a false win.

Another stan thread.
It's disturbing how invested some of you are when it comes to these 2 artists. I honestly don't understand it and I'm not sure if I even want to.

Why couldn't you just make a Nas Appreciation thread if you wanted to highlight his accomplishments?

I like Hov too much to say this is just on him. Kanye the solo artists influence on him has been very damaging. But ultimately we have to admit all our favorite artists just got older and things changed for them and it was inevitable. Hov is onto bigger things, Dre's not motivated, Cube's focus is elsewhere, Eminem's life is totally different, The Wu arent in the right space, 50 got rich, Dmx couldn't control his life and so forth. Artists are still people, they still have everyday situations which affect them. Nas too, he just bounced back right and controlled the distractions.
