This may sound weird but I believe KAJ may be the greatest basketball player while MJ is the greatest NBA player.

Hear me out: KAJ is without a doubt the GOAT college player, I don't think there's any debate on that and his NBA resume compares favorably to anyone not named Jordan (or Bill Russell). His longevity was unmatched and he had a great peak as well. But after winning a title really fast (as a sophomore), he spent his prime not winning much (other than reaching and losing the 74 finals) in arguably the 2nd weakest NBA decade (after the 50s). He has the same number of rings as MJ but won some of those as a 2nd or sometimes 3rd wheel.

MJ's individual peak and dominance might only be surpassed by Wilt's (and there's a lot to be said about Wilt's stats happy era, competition and lack of titles) and won all of his titles as not only his team's top dog but the league's undisputed best player. And his resume can fukk with any other's.

Lol @ people bringing up the NBA Finals MVP argument against Kareem.

As if Kareem wasn't the real Finals MVP in 1980, the same year he was the regular season MVP

As if Kareem didn't drop 33 points a game that finals, compared to Magics 21

Kareem was injured game 5, still came back in the 4th to win the game and hand the Lakers a 3-2 series lead

NO question Magic played the game of his career in Game 6 to win the series, but Magic getting the Finals MVP was a bit bullshyt IMO

Kareem was the Finals MVP that year bit Magics Game 6 performance, and his status as a rookie got him the award instead

In my eyes Kareem was the Finals MVP three times

During the 80s run, Kareem was in the second decade of his career, of course he would then defer to the GOAT PG

As for his playoff success pre Magic, what were those Laker teams like in the 70s?

:scusthov:

Yall telling me with a straight face you picking any other player to build around besides a prime Kareem?

:heh:

You do realize that despite Kareem having a better resume than almost everyone, there were quite a few players who were actually better players in their prime/at their peaks? I know I certainly wouldn't pick a player to build around whose prime didn't coincide with the modern era.
