damn. i get upset at the comments in here... not even close? 90% fillers?
I'm just going to speak for myself here.. I listen to every song, yes every song but Another.

Fvck You Tonight a rnb joint on a double album, of course this was going to be on there
Nasty Boy is just a good song
I fvck with Playa Hater..

now how many other songs can you really criticize?

But this shyt isn't a classic? yes it's flawed but it doesn't matter, the consistent highs outshine the Anothers and it's a double album for christ sake, he had songs for everybody ofc you're not gonna like everything.

and smh at @Rapmastermind waiting 6 months to upp the thread and throw subs.

An album has to be completely flawless to be considered classic? What? nikkas namin 2 tracks and a skit they didn't like out of how many tracks, and because of that, it's not a classic?
And are we arguing flawlessness, quality period, definition (impact/influence), acclaim, etc; some weird mix of these?
"Classic" is one of the weirdest, ill-defined terms in Hip-Hop discussion. Feels like everybody in here got a different definition.

nobody is saying that an album has to be flawless in order to be a classic.

the point is that this album is TOO flawed to be a classic.

how many albums with songs for everybody are considered classics? most of them are heavily criticized. not saying that i agree with all of those sentiments, but i find it comical how biggie's album gets a pass, simply because he died upon its release.

I love RTD, I like LAD. I agree with TS and I think LAD might be the most overrated album ever next to maybe Stillmatic/Blueprint which are forced classics.

you can maybe throw outkast in there too

the only ones that gets brought up, and for good reasons.

Life After Death is a classic to me period. Again the only song I dislike is Another, I just made excuses for songs you may not like. :mjpls:

Nope according to Billboard Historians. "Life After Death" was so anticipated that stores were selling it illegally before street date at a rate that Billboard had to report it. That's why it had the Largest Jump in Billboard History. It charted at 176 off street date violations. So Basically Biggie was the 1st artist to chart before their street date. I believe they changed the rules after. It was certified Platinum after it's 1st week as it sold close to 700k. It was the highest selling opening week for Arista Records until Usher's "Confessions". So today 16th Anniversary of it's release. Here are some more "Life After Death" facts:

*Largest Jump in Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart History, 176 to #1
*2nd Rap album to be certified Diamond after MC HAMMER "Please don't hurt em".
*Guinness Book of World Record Entry 2000, 1st Hard Core Hip Hop album to be certified Diamond
*15 Million Record Sold Worldwide
*"Hypnotize" and "Mo Money, Mo Problems" made Biggie the only artist in Hot 100 History to have two Posthumous #1 songs.
*"Notorious Thugs and F*ckin U Tonite" both charted on the RnB charts off airplay alone.
*"Hypnotize" went Platinum, "Mo Money Mo Problems" Went Platinum and "Sky's The Limit/Goin Back To Cali" went Gold.
*After a Record Breaking 11 Weeks at #1 for "I'll be Missing You" which was a Biggie tribute. "Mo Money, Mo Problems" ended it's reign and stayed #1 an additional 2 weeks.
*The album finished the Year as the Top RnB/Rap album of the year on Billboard.
*Life After Death has been featured on over 50 Greatest albums of all time List including Rolling Stone and The Source Magazine.
*According to Who Sampled.Com "Life After Death" has been sampled over 200 times from it's production and lyrics.

Happy 16th Birthday "Life After Death" 3/25/97-3/25/13

LOL @ "It's not Classic"

Like I said, it's on you guys to prove it's not Classic cause it's status is already in the books. Saying "I don't like this song" don't mean it ain't classic. That's like someone saying "I don't like Hitchcock's Psycho". Great, you don't like it. So how does that change it's status in History?

There's two things in play causing this revision:

1. Hip Hop as a culture and exclusive fraternity is dead.
2. A totally different generation of ears hearing the music.

See when this dropped hip hop still had fathers and was a family. We weren't just a bunch of b*stards running round calling our own shots. The hip hop gods to an extent were trying to tell us what was what.

If you find a lot of what we hear today enjoyable and you didn't grow up in that era...the material may sound horrible to you.

you left out "art of war" and "tru 2 da game".

and i never hear anybody mention that outkast album outside of here. that aint even a hip-hop album.

as for the 400 degreez/ready to die statement. our differences prolly stem from the fact that you most likely have "ready to die" on a higher pedestal than i do.

400 degreez & ready to die are both in the top 25 area in my book.

:what:

man, what are you yappin about?

theres no revision.

replace the "life after death" in the thread title with "get rich or die tryin" and the same rules apply. only difference is that biggie passed away unfortunately, so his album is immortalized.
