His first born baby is diagnosed with downs and the doctors are telling him and his wife to abort.

He asked me for advice and I simply said I can't even imagine making this kind of a decision.

Adding to the grieve, both of them are super religious. Your typical church goers that are always there for Sunday service.

Got 4 kids....all healthy:blessed:

It's a parents nightmare to have any problems (sickness) with their babies. So sorry to hear that:why:

As for my advice, don't have that baby

abort and try again...sound shytty, but :manny:

nobody wants their kid to suffer and definitely don't want to watch them suffering...i wouldn't even want to bring a child into poverty, so i damn sure would want this for them...

Same thing I am thinking. I would do the same thing. I don't want my future children to suffer. I would abort and try again

I don’t even see how this is a stressful decision. Abort that shyt. You really want to take care of a human being your entire life like a child? You really want your child to love like that when you knew ahead of time how it was going to be like. In this instance not getting an abortion would be like cruel and unusual punishment. Can they not just conceive again?

I have a close family member with autism. Let me tell you. A mentally challenged child is no easy task. It is mentally, emotionally and financially straining.

If he can mentally, emotionally and finically make the investment. Do it.

But he will have a dependent baby for the rest of his life. Period.

Can they handle that?

I'll keep it one hunnid. One of my good friends and his wife were in the same situation. They kept the child. It's a blessing and he's a wonderful kid. BUT he is stuck at that point developmentally and will always be a burden for someone to take care of.

That and this thread right here gave me perspective on that type of decision:

The reality of this situation is not very politically correct.

Me and my wife already talked about that before the testing was done, we said we would abort. Having a special needs child overwhelmingly leads to divorce, it's a huge burden.

I have that conversation upfront with girls I've been serious with (enough to marry) as well. No point in going forward with someone who has a drastically different view than you on something important.
